Consecrate Genesis

Summary: Uriel, a young man raised as a convent girl, is forced to accompany a swordsman. Oblivious of the fact the swordsman is actually a spy for the nobility, who wants to raze the unforuntate city for their use, he tells the spy more than enough information of this sacred city.

The young woman pulled her hooded cloak tighter as she hurried through the starlit gardens, clinging to the pools of shadow by the walls. She held a bundle of silk to her breast. As she crossed the square, she made out a figure already there.

“Gods Mora,” the priestess whispered, as she embraced the young woman with one arm.

The woman, barely an adult even, collapsed on to the cobblestones and clutched the priestess’ alb with a small delicate hand.

“I beg you, by these knees of yours I clasp, pity me. The gods will pay you back, take my son and raise him in your temple. He mustn’t know... he mustn’t...oh Kasha...” The woman broke down, sobbing hard against the priestess.

Kasha raised the weeping mother with her hand, a look of sympathy on her face.

“Mora, many reasons make me ready to acquiesce in your request,” the older woman said. She held out her arms. “Poor child, give me the babe and I shall raise him as if my own.”

Mora quickly pressed the bundle into the priestess’ arms.

“What if he finds out? What if the nurse and midwife tell...” the young woman broke into fresh tears anew. The priestess raised a hand to silence the sobbing maiden.

“I shall raise your son under a convent girl’s rule. No one will find out he is a boy, I’ll make sure of that,” the priestess told the mother.

The baby whimpered, a small piteous squeak. Rocking him gently, Kasha examined the child.

“But don’t you have another son, this babe’s twin? Why do you give...” Kasha looked up to see empty air. The young mother had fled.

Turning slowly, the priestess walked back to her temple. The baby opened his eyes to inspect the woman curiously. Cut within the blue of his right eye was a single shard of pink.
