One Love (Carrie Goldman’s character poem)

To me love was a mystery

Something that had never happened to me

Until I walked right through that door

And what met me was what I’d expected, and more

A man who smiled at me, oh so sweet

The kindest person you could ever meet

He spoke to me, told me his name

All I did was wrong, it caused me shame

And yet, he smiled, said I was unique

I felt so hot, I could not speak

And yet, he smiled, apparently now my friend

No matter what I did, my feelings wouldn’t end

Now I know that he’s my one love, so true

I stare at his eyes, so kind, so blue

The question is: will he ever love me?

If so, my heart would fill with glee

My one love, whom I dream of each night

Do you love me? Maybe, he might

When I speak to you, my cheeks instantly redden

This feeling of true love will never deaden

And now, as I sit on my bed

Thoughts of him fill up my head

My one love, so wonderful, something more

I’ve never felt this way before

I hope someday to be his wife

My one love, true love, the only love of my life
