There’s nothing to change the facts. You can pretend to forget, you can shove the memories back in a box in the farthest depth of your mind, but you can’t alter reality. Someday those little fears and dead-end roads are going to come back and slap you in the face.
For a long time you will forget. You’ll forget the abuse, the scars, the hurt, and the burdens. But it all comes back in a rush like Niagara Falls in the spring. Everything you tried to forget, tried to stuff back in that god-forsaken closet, comes back. And then it never really goes away. Not until you deal with it. Not until you come to terms with the fact that it’s bothering you and it scares you shitless.
Until then it just lurks around, unseen, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
