Prologue

Back in the days when humans were few and far between demons were worshiped as Gods and Goddesses. Sacrifices were made in their honor as they revealed their powers, striking fear into the hearts of the humans. War broke out between the demons, each craving ultimate power over the humans.

Twin sisters, Destiny and Fate, stood up for the humans. They believed that the humans did not deserve to be used as toys by the demon clans. They turned to the true Goddess, Kali, for help. Kali saw how much damage her demons were doing to the human future and decided it was time to intervene.

Kali banished the demons to a new world, the Underworld, where they would be forced to live without their powers for one century. Fate and Destiny were given Demigod status as a reward for their unselfish plea. The sisters decided that when Kali allowed the demons to leave the Underworld, the humans would need protection, warriors that would be strong enough to take on the demons.

The twins separated, each traveling to separate sides of the Earth. Fate and Destiny created two small children, molding them out of the shadows, to resemble the humans. Each child had his own powers that would manifest when they became of age. They left the children with humans that were able to raise them. Then they joined Kali in the heavens to watch their children–the first vampires.

Fate and Destiny did not expect their children to turn on the humans. When they reached the age that their powers manifested, they developed an urge to destroy the humans they were meant to protect. Kali appeared to each of the vampires and warned them, if they were to ever take a human life there would be consequences. They would be forced to live with a thirst that would never truly be quenched and they would become slaves to that thirst for eternity.

Destiny’s child listened to Kali and fought the urge to harm the humans he had grown up with. Eventually, he managed to silence the screams in his head. He became a powerful Demonslayer for one thousand years. Finally, as the humans fell under the rule of their own kings, he laid down to rest deep underground where Destiny could no longer watch over her son.

Fate’s child, however, chose not to listen to Kali. He killed everyone in his village. He began craving more than the death of the humans, but their blood as well. Fate appeared to her son, not wanting him to live his life alone, gave him the ability to make others of his kind by sharing his blood with the dead. She warned him that with the power came a consequence.

Kali and Destiny agreed that if Fate’s child was to create more of his kind, they would need to give humans the ability to fight the vampires. Destiny used her influence to allow a number of Hunters to be born to each generation of humans. They became known as the Hunters of Destiny to fight the vampires created by Fate.

The first Hunters were strong warriors, each given the strength of a thousand men to battle the creatures of the night. It wasn’t until the first female Hunter was born, however, that anyone dared to challenge Fate’s son. Even she did not survive.

Until the Christensen brothers were born...
