Sappho claimed that there exists no mortal path to heaven,

Yet who is she to claim,

She who never found one?

Denial of existence is the last step in an unsuccessful search,

For things are fantasy unless they are found.

And whether Venus offered her immortality or happiness is unknown,

Because for every godly promise broken there's a promise misunderstood.

And those of the greatest rank have nothing over those below them,

For all are equal when they are made a promise,

And the wise prophets have nothing over their admirers

The future comes and it twists itself as it pleases,

Not quite as etched in stone as they say.

Perhaps there is a mortal path to immortality,

But no path at all to understanding it.
