Kate
"Friendship with oneself is all important because without it one cannot be friends with anybody else in the world."
"Hey Kate!" I turned as I heard someone call my name. Running down the hall was my best friend in the world, Lane. His semi-short brown hair moving akwardly as his tall lanky frame caught up with me. "Why didn't you wait for me?" he asked, slowing down.
"Sorry Lane, I just got kind of caught up in some other stuff," I replied, looking around.
"What kind of other stuff? Your usual 'everyone's my friend whether I'm their's or not' stuff? Or something different?"
"Kind of both." I opened my locker. "Can we just drop it?"
"Sure, whatever you want. So, are we still on for bowling tonight? Some of the guys wanted to come, and, knowing you wouldn't mind, I told them sure." He stole a glance at me and said, "You don't mind, right?"
"No, I don't mind. It's not like it was a date or anything," I grinned. A lot of people thought that Lane and I were a couple, but the fact was we had just been best friends since grade school. One time at recess he kissed me on a dare, but that was as far as we went, romantically speaking.
"Okay, that's great. I'll see ya later then!" He jogged off to join his other friends.
My mind went back to the girl I'd met at lunch. I felt so bad for her. She always seemed so lonely. She never talked to anyone. I'd noticed her a lot recently, and the day I decided to go ahead and meet her, she wasn't in the best mood. I felt really bad about what had happened to her.
I hate it when people don't understand that I'm only trying to be nice. I never have "alterior motives" as one person said. I like people, and I want them to be happy. No one seems to understand the importance of self love and sacrifice anymore. Well, I think I'm going to ask Miranda to go to a movie with me on Friday. Unfortunately I'm busy until then. Lane is trying to keep me from being "overly friendly", and I think he's nuts. I think that he's waiting outside my bedroom door though, to take me bowling, again. :( I'm so tired of bowling!
