Summary: What do you feel when it’s your first day at work?
Oh no, I got a job!..
Part I. The interview
I think it's the most difficult part. Imagine, you come to an unknown place, meet some strangers and then try to persuade them that you are the best. Mission impossible… Yes, it's very difficult, especially for shy people. But even if you are enough self-confident it's still hard. But there are ways to understand what is wanted from you. First of all, try to learn as much as possible about your future job and company before the interview. Then read some books about body language. That will help you greatly, believe me. And just try not to panic. You are a good specialist with many abilities and qualities. That's a job for you. It's practically yours. But if they don't hire you it will be their loss. It's a good mantra, isn't it? Let's hope it will help…
Part II. Your job.
What we learn and what work we do are two different things. Even if you can use your knowledge, without work experience it's nothing. At least so they tell. Is it really so? Maybe not. You are new with brand new ideas and methods of your own. Just don't panic (my advice of the day). You are a human being, you will make mistakes, only remember to correct them. If you are afraid to speak put down your ideas and give them to your boss or discuss them privately with your "great chief" or colleagues. Let your first project be a teamwork.
Part III. Your colleagues.
Enemies… Enemies everywhere… They hate me, try to get me fired… Believe me that's not the right attitude towards your colleagues. Teamwork is very important. If they are not your friends they should be your partners whom you respect and who respect you. Don't be afraid of them. They won't bite. And they can't fire you and you can't fire them so why not at least be respectful to each other. Try to be friendly (don't panic!) and remember everyone likes presents…
Part IV (the last but not the least). Your…BOSS.
Many employees are afraid of this creature. But you should not be. Or he/she will have too much power over you. Try to deal with him/her like with your teacher. Hey, in the beginning he/she is your teacher, I think. Be polite, always be polite! Never argue with him/her or make rude comments about him/her (especially among your colleagues). But you can discuss and criticize (a bit) just remember about politeness. No, he/she isn't a teacher, he/she is your headmaster. So deal with him/her practically in the same way. And one more thing… Don't panic!
