Afraid

time passes slowly,

she opens her heart

knowingly putting herself in the

painful situation.

she takes a deep breath

and closes her eyes,

afraid

to open them again.

with every step,

she gets closer

and her heart begins to mend.

but then,

it starts all over

and she is back at the beginning

where there is nothing but darkness,

afraid

to go any farther

she stops

and waits until the end.

but there is no light

at the end of the tunnel

as she has been told

many times,

instead there is the dark void

that fills her,

afraid

to go on

she sits and waits

for the light to come

but it only gets darker.

she rises to her feet

and takes another step

each one is heavier than the last

until she nearly gives in,

afraid

to stop moving

she continues on.

the darkness beckons her

she closes it out

slowly

the weight is blown away

as she watches her burdens

melt into the air

and her journey begins anew.
