Imperfection
by: Michelle Muñoz

You wanted clear blue skies
So the clouds stayed at bay
No white to mar your perfect blue
For you, the sun stayed out all day
No rainy days for you, oh no
No clouds of steely, iron gray
Maybe clouds of white now and then
But no rain clouds are welcomed to stay
Only the absolute best is good enough
For you, that's all there will ever be
Horses white as the purest snow
Smooth sailing on the calmest sea
The strongest pup in the litter
Not a single glance for the runt
No flights of fancy or strange friends
Just no time for the flamboyant
So I'll take the rainy days
Every drop of water that falls
All the cold, cloudy days
The hail storms and squalls
I'll take the worst of everything
I'll take whatever you leave behind
The ugly brown pony and little runt
It's with me where a home they'll find
You can keep the Picasso paintings
I'll take coloring books, their edges rough
You take the perfect and leave the rest
Because like them, I'll never be good enough
