Repercussions of a fake smile.
Together for months, it wasn’t always like this.
I smiled true, my laugh pure, they watched, jealous.
Now, that’s all changed. The smile is no longer true.
I smile fakely, wanting him to see.
He smiles back, not seeing my deceit.
I wonder what is wrong. He still loves me.
There is no reason why I shouldn’t love him.
---
The smile on his face is no longer true. I can tell…
His smile is fake, as mine has been for months.
I smile back, just as fake. He looks away.
He’s finally recognised my smile, and fades away.
Our love has disappeared, and will not return.
Friends no more, lovers never again.
The repercussions of a fake smile.
