Untitled

You say those words
And I wonder at what I’m hearing.
The surroundings melt away;
There is no longer a tower on the hill top,
The horses no longer frolic in the fields,
The cars pottering along the narrow lanes disappear
And all that is left,
For the briefest of moments,
Is your face,
And in that moment I take in your absolute beauty:
The shape of your nose,
The slight curl of your soft, pink lips,
The roundness and colour of your cheeks
And the curvature of the tops of your ears,
Not to mention, of course, your champagne eyes.
And I wonder at how such a beauty,
At how such a gift of God,
At how a woman of such faith,
Of such gentleness,
And of such amazing character
Can say those words to me.
I ponder the multitudes of males
That must undoubtedly be queuing for your kiss
And my heart erupts with joy because
You said those words to me.

To me!

And the surroundings come flooding back
As I desire to remember everything about this moment
And I want nothing more than to hold you tight in my arms and
My breath allows me to say little more than
“I love you too.”
