theINHUMANMACHINE
He was in a foreign room with walls of welcoming green color. Sunlight lit the room, warmed him in its glow. A wooden bed was centered against the wall with soft brown fabric over the mattress. Her arms held beneath her, a woman could be seen lying on the bed covers. She slowly turned on to her back, her hands opening up to him. Blood dripped down onto the bed from her slit wrists, “Wake up John13206.”
Eyes opened up to bright lights that mercilessly shone into them. The voice that had woken him up was hollow and electronic. It emanated from a hovering machine from which the shining light in his eyes came. “John13206, you have been charged with the crime of experiencing a dream, witnessing blood, sunlight, and a female human.” He could feel his bed sliding out of the house where it lifted him up and hooked onto a rail, which brought it forward.
Below, men came out of their houses, which were all identical in ever way, and moved about their business in a formal, robotic, way. The land stretched on in every direction. Long ago the mountains had been paved down for easy expansion. Above them the sky was black with smog. Naturalists had been declared terrorists long ago and without them it was easier to kill off the planet.
John13206 was still in his work suit, all of the workers slept in them so that they may return to work the next day as quickly as possible. His head was shaven bald and a barcode was visible on his scalp. Below the black bars it was neatly printed “John13206”, the number was his personal ID to separate him from all the other Johns. His suit was black and formal, complete with a black tie and white shirt.
The bed slowed and then tilted on its side so that John13206 fell some ten feet before a similar rail appeared and caught him with a passing cart. This cart brought him to an expansive pyramid where the rail slanted up and the cart began to ascend up the side. It brought him to the cold and calculating form of Government.
Sitting upon a throne erected at the peak of the pyramid a woman watched him approach. She was the infinitely knowledgeable A.I., Government. This cruel machine was the law of the planet, enforced every law as quickly and unjustly as she made them. Through her means the world had become a machine and the human race its fuel. “John13206. You have been sentenced to termination due to your recent experience of dreaming. In this dream you witnessed the sun, materials that were neither metal nor suits, the sight of a female human, and you saw blood. Such images inquire that you are reverting to a human state of mind. You are not human, you are only a gear in my machine! Terminate John13206 as ordered by Government, it is the only way to prevent him from spreading!”
John13206 of course did not understand what his crime was, but Government did. Through innate human will mankind was fighting back her repression. It had taken her millennia to program the human race into her perfect machine, all the stripped gears like John13206 were to be immediately removed and replaced so that it could run smoothly without interruptions like human will and human rights.
Humming and beeping the machines came down upon him. They scanned his barcode first, so that they knew which name to delete from the database and then fired. There was nothing left of John13206, only ashes on the temple of an insane tyrant called Government. Soon even the ashes were scraped off, leaving no sign that John13206 ever existed.
What lies in the depths of a dream? Is it only our thoughts, or is it the very thing that makes us human? Our dreams are our subconscious. The subconscious stores out thoughts infinitely. Memory reclaims these thoughts from the subconscious database. To this end we can do amazing things, but only if our will is unsuppressed.
Society suppresses the individual’s will. Government controls our society and thus it is Government that holds Man back. The real question is whether or not suppression is correct. Cancer is in fact the rapid growth of cells in the body. To this excuse were we not suppressed would we not just expand and multiply like a great cancer upon the world? Government ended the world as you have read, but the human race still existed and thrived. Is being bound by laws so bad that we would rather flourish to an unguided extreme and doom not only the world, but also ourselves?
The truth is that there are so many truths that there can be no truths. Many opinions exist and they can’t all be fulfilled, Government spawned the antithesis Anarchy and is only one of many contrasts. Both sides propose ample reason, but neither can be right because without one to suppress the other than the successor would only become a cancer.
