Just Keep Swimming

Our prayers are with those in the path of Katrina.

the winds sang of many painful deaths
the rain and the debris beat down walls together
the worn flannel blankets where she slept
could not protect her from the violent weather

when the water crowded through the door
she was rudely awoken and swept away
she vainly attempted to swim to shore
but there was nothing except cascades

of unidentifiable objects smeared with /something/
when a big man in red plucked her from the floods
she was bruised,weary, weeping, and hungry
the papers called her The Little Swimmer That Could
