Waking up
She wouldn’t think much
Get up and look in the mirror
And stare at the façade
That stood in front of her
She’d go to school
Smile to friends
Stayed proud and optimistic
But most of all
Gaze at him
Was he a friend?
She didn’t know for herself
Sentences would flow out of her mouth
And he would advert his eyes and stare blankly
Never really sure if he was truly listening.
The blood was flowing
Too thickly from his ears
For her to try and stop it
Yet she tried and tried
With that scrap of cloth
To make some effort in mopping it up
To her his eyes were gone
Never seeing them and never knowing
Truly what he was thinking
His soul was hidden
And she could not find it
His lips were sewn together
But the more she stuck around
The more they became loose
They never left
Still confining him in a eerie silence
Every time he’d walk away
Or ignore her
She felt his large hidden claws
Scrape into her heart
Just enough for it to sting
1 o’clock in the morning
She stares at her clock
He lingers in her mind
Wondering what he dreams
When he can see nothing
She laid there
All alone just staring at the ceiling
She wondered if he thought of her
Wondered if anyone thought of her
Or dreamt of her
She was a ghost
Fading distantly away from people
Just getting up
To see the next day
Was becoming harder and harder
He only got worse
His lips began to bleed
As
he tightened his stitches
His
scrapes and punches
Only more violent
His ears became clogged
With his own blood
His eyes still lost
A ice fortress in their place
Forbidding anyone to enter his hopes and dreams
She never did see his soul
She never got to listen to his desires
He had turned into a monster
Before her eyes
Yet she still yearned for him
Curious of his secrets
He only grew more grotesque
The more she tried to help
But she was not afraid
He was hurting her
And he didn’t know it
He didn’t know
How badly she wanted to see his soul
How badly she wanted to see the real him
He kept trying to push her away
Growing new limbs or bleeding more
Trying to scare her away
Just get her away from him
And his secrets
He didn’t know
That this only made her more interested
And all the more hurt
Because he hated her
And she loved him
And she would never be
The one that made him
Monster
Into man.
