Halcyon

Exhale-
watch as tendrils weave their way
in and around the dance,
the erratic movement,
of crystals on the wind.

Footsteps-
weaving through blankets of white,
treading new paths, different roads
to utopia, forbidden,
to the land of false smiles.

Glitter-
city lights catching the prismatic,
and enigmatic array of snow
falling, so gently upon
this place of untruth.

Wonder-
At this marvel, at this novelty
And all that it may herald ...
A mere child, a boy,
has wrought this calamity?

Tremble-
Beneath the icy judgement and the pleas-
this penance, so long overdue.
Do you weep for who you were
or what you want to be?

Comprehend-
What you've known shall crumble;
What was among us, then, was the witch,
the sorceress of the forest
come to kill the pure.

So you'll whimper-
And the silent cadence of the snow caught
-helpless-
on the wind will drown out
that last gasp we all make,
as the apple -poisoned-
we fed each other with smiles
falls from fingers numb with cold.
