The End of the World

Herbal fumes fill my lungs,
As I step down from off the rungs.

One step, two step, three step, four.

A billowing breeze runs through my hair,
The world around me still so unaware.

One step, two step, three step, four.

The clock is ticking, counting down the time,
And I'm awaiting the hour that is only mine.

One step, two step, three step, four.

A single star is hovering overhead,
And silver tears from my eyes bled.

One step, two step, three step, four.

Engulfed in an unearthly silence,
I am overcome with a sudden violence.

One step, two step, three step, four.

Slashing and cutting at the dark,
I hear the cry of a mangled lark.

One step, two step, three step, four.

I am now standing with the remaining seven,
Wondering who'll be accepted through the gates of Heaven.

One step, two step, three step, four.
