Chapter One: In Which Things Are Introduced
In the Age of Battles, the Age of War, the Age of Magic and Swords, there was a school. This school was no ordinary school. Of course, there were books to be read, assignments to be done, things to learn, but this was no ordinary school. Oh yes, throughout it's giant structure, teachers taught, students sat and listened, and students exercised on the grounds, but this was no ordinary school. It was a school of magic. Towering over the countryside, this giant castle, gleaming white as the sun, banners billowing from every parapet, was the source of salvation for many a troubled individual. Located in the center of the land of Callendrell, surrounded by deserts impassable, forests untamable, oceans unchartable, it stood, and it sheltered. The entire land depended on it for survival, and the people of Callendrell were shielded from worry underneath it's mighty wing. Or so it was thought.
At the will of a guild of evil wizards, beasts came from the oceans, the forests, and the deserts. Demons crawled out in plains, on mountains, and in the skies. Much of the land was destroyed before peace settled again. However, it was not absolute peace. Creatures still roam the lands of Callendrell, creatures that are the very bane of existence. The Academy of Magic has it's hands full, and already more than half of the land has further fallen to waste. Entire nations vanished, many more reduced to tiny villages dotting the shattered lands.
Young travelers venture to the Academy to train, and to help the land return to peace. These hopefuls trek trough the toughest of elements, solving puzzles using their minds and bodies as weapons. To those who make it through, they are rewarded. Those with much magical ability are trained as mages, and those weak in the art are employed as guards, scouts, and blacksmiths. For even though they are weak in magic, it guides their hands, making them much more efficient than normal citizens. Mages are divided into six categories, each specializing in their own fields. There are the Airius Adepts, trained in the elements of wind and lightning, the Liquius Adepts, masters of Ice and Water, the Firius Mages, experts in the ways of Fire and Forging, the Earathus Adepts, that handle Stone and Vegetation magic, and the Spiritus Adepts, honed in the fields of the balancing forces of Dark and Light. Then there are those who are not of one element at all, the Spellswords, who use various magics to encumber the enemy and strengthen their allies, also using various weaponry, though are weak in combat magic
All mages, of any plane, must use their magics and might together to prevail. The future rests in the hands of inhabitants of this Academy, for without them, all is truly lost.
