Let’s Pretend

Lets pretend that I’m not at war

Lets pretend that if I get lost Vietcong won’t kill me

Lets pretend that I have something to fight for

Now I’ll pretend that the medivac isn’t coming

To take my friends home…in pieces

I’m pretending that we just went for another walk in the woods

That we won’t see any combat-

Finally I’m going to pretend that I wasn’t just shot

And that I’m not going home in a bag-

Too bad I’m no good at pretending.
