Not Home

By: K.S. Night

This place…

This is the home

That is not home.

Nothing is familiar.

The sun is different.

The land isn’t the same.

The air is different.

This place…

This is not home.

This house…

This is the house,

That is not my house.

Rooms are mismatched,

And walls are different.

These walls are not warm

As the last ones were.

This house…

This is not home.

This room…

This is the room,

That is not my room.

Positions are strange,

And the color is wrong.

The windows give off light,

As the last ones did not.

This room…

This is not home.

Family is familiar,

As is the furniture.

Some things are similar…

So very similar…

Some things are better.

Many things tell me

Life will be better here,

But…

It is not home.

This place…

This is the place I live,

But do not call home.

Paint the rooms…

Change the walls and floors.

Do whatever you feel is needed

To make this place your home.

But to me,

This is not home.

This will never be home…
