Um... ok. I got the idea of writting a story to a song from The Unforgetable Sound (Love ya! ) I was listening to "Hello" by Evanescence, and got the idea for this story.
Basically, Alex knows his sister is talking too many pain killers to get high, but doesn't tell anyone. This is the result. Because it's so short I'll let you guys think of your own character descrption. But know, he's in highschool, so you get an idea of age, sister a few years older.
Status: I finshed! YAY!!!
Lyrics: Italics, bold and centered.
If anyone has never heard this song, e-mail me and I will send you the file of it.
Playground school bell rings again
Rain clouds come to play again
"Thank God school's over for tod-ah shit. It's raining again!" Alex started to walk out the door but retreated when he felt water pelting him on the head.
"Walking home again, Hon?" April asked.
"Yeah... Crap. Do you have to call me Hon? People are gonna think we are dating." He smiled. Everyone knew Alex and April had been friends since fifth grade, and would never date. She just called everyone "Hon".
About fifteen minutes later it stopped raining and he started his trek home.Has no one told you she's not breathing?
Walking past the trees that blocked his house from view from the road, Alex knew instantly that something was wrong. Every few seconds, out of the corner of his eye, he say flashing lights. He stopped for a moment, thoughts buzzing.
"Oh no..." His heart started to pound. "God no, that can't be it." He broke in to a fierce run. One thought swam around in his head as he raced home. "Not her... Not her..."
Turning into his driveway, Alex slid to a halt. "Oh God..." His heart almost stopped. There, in his front yard, was an ambulance, a police cruiser, and his sobbing mother.
Hello
I'm your mind giving you someone to talk to
Hello
"What makes you think that?" Alex's mother said in a shaky voice.
"Well, we found this prescription bottle next to her bed." He held up the bottle in a small plastic bag, "The bottle was filled only two weeks ago. It's almost empty already." The officer looked at Alex. "I'm sorry son, but could you leave the room? We'd like to talk to your mother in private." Obediently, he stood and walked to the other end of the house. While sitting there lost in thought, the voice inside his head decided it was time for a comeback.
You know it's your fault that she's dead. You knew that she was taking more than she was supposed too. Krystal's dead, and its all... your... FAULT!
"Shut up. Just shut up!" He cried, his voice breaking. "I don't give a shit what you say! It's not my fault!"
If I smile and don't believe
Soon I know I'll wake from this dream
Alex..." He stirred in his chair. "Alex, wake up, you fell asleep. And it looked like you were having a nightmare" Slowly he opened one eye. Then the other, then his jaw dropped. "Kr-Kr-Krystal?" She nodded. He jumped up and hugged her. "Oh, my God. It was just a dream." He felt tears of relief running down his cheeks.
"Alex. Alex, look at me." She grasped his shoulders and held him in front of her. "You know you should have done something."
"Wha-What?"
"You know it's your fault I'm dead." Suddenly she changed. Her gentle features were rotting before his eyes. He tried to say something but his voice refused to work. He swallowed and tried again.
"It's. Not. My. Fault!" He shoved what used to be his sister with all his might. The next thing he knew he was flailing his limbs and getting tangled in his bed sheet. "Krystal..." He detangled himself and laid back down. "Krystal, it wasn't my fault." He turned on his side, willing his pounding heart to calm, and for sleep to overtake him again.
Don't try to fix me I'm not broken
"Alex?" April tried to get her friend's attention. "Alex, you're about to bite that poor pencil in half. What's up?"
As if coming out of a trance, Alex took the almost decapitated pencil out of his mouth, looked at it, then placed it on the desk. It had been a week since Krystal's untimely passing.
"Up? Nothing's up. Just a little stressed, that's all." He replied quickly. "Yeah... stress." He said, and it seemed as if he was trying to convince himself more than April.
"Well, um... Considering all that just happened, I wanted to make sure you were ok."
Alex looked at her, "Ok? Yeah, I'm fine." He turned back to the teacher just as the bell rang.
"Now, don't forget your homework for tomorrow. Class dismissed."
Alex gathered his belongings and started to stand up, but April placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Alex, I'm here for you. You know that right?" He nodded slightly, wanted to get out of there. "Well, I want to make sure that you know that you can talk to me if you need to." She started to hug him and he shoved her away and into one of the desks.
"I'm fine! God, how many times to I have to say it?" April looked at him with a hurt expression, and after realizing what he had done, he turned and ran.
"Alex! Wait!"
Hello
I'm the lie living for you so you can hide
Don't cry
It's your fault. The voice said in an almost singsong voice.
"No. It's not! Just go away. I have homework." Alex dropped his books on his desk and took out some paper.
I can't just "go away", Alex. You know that. You know that just like you know it's your fault she's gone.
"It's not."
Yes, it is.
"No. It's not!" He shook his head and tried to focus on his work. Tears burning in his eyes.
Oh, come on now. Don't cry. That takes the fun out of everything. All right, it wasn't completely your fault. Better?
Alex sniffed and tried to ignore the voice.
Please stop crying.
Suddenly I know I'm not sleeping
Alex jerked awake. "What the hell... Leave me alone!" He buried his head in his hands. Once again, his dreams led him to Krystal. Once again he saw his sister's rotting form accusing him. Blaming him for her death. You've got to get a hold of these nightmares. You need to get some sleep.
"Shut up! You're not helping!"
Fine. The voice sounded offended. Deal with this problem on your own. Have fun.
Hello
I'm still here
All that's left of yesterday
You know, I'm the only on who knows the truth. Well, except you. But you refuse to admit it. Time will cure that, though.
"There's nothing to admit. It was not my fault." Alex shook his head, trying to convince the voice to go away.
If you keep living in denial, the dreams will never stop.
"I'm not in denial."
Yeah, you are. She won't stop haunting you until you get out of denial.
"I'm not in denial"
Krystal won't forgive you until you get out of denial.
"I'm not in denial!"
The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem.
"Go away."
No. As long as you think it's not your fault, I'm staying. I'm just a little reminder of your guilt.
"Get lost."
Nope. I think I'm gonna be here for a long time.
