Night of the Crimson Thirst
By: K.S. Night

When the night is dark and the moon has risen,
Some say this night is the worst.
For this is the one to the dark creatures given,
This is the night of the Crimson Thirst.

They slip from their shadows and crawl from the trees,
To wreak unexplained havoc on all.
They travel through darkness to hunt and to feed,
Preying on others both big and small.

When the night is dark and the moon does not hide,
This night cannot go unrehearsed.
For this is the night when all stay inside.
This is the night of the Crimson Thirst.

With both claws and fangs bared in the night,
They feed upon all they can find.
None will see a more sickening sight,
For only tonight, they have no rules to abide.

When the night is dark and the moon is a-glow,
All wonder what creatures appear first.
In what light there is, their ugly faces do show,
For this is the night of the Crimson Thirst.

Beware if you are outside on this night,
For you’re risking your life to be sure.
They’re scent you, and chase you, until fear blocks your sight.
Such fear is no thing a mere Mortal could endure.

When the night is dark and the moon is high,
Some feel their hearts may just burst.
All shall see creatures tear through the sky.
This is the night of the Crimson Thirst.

Finally the night of fear comes to an end,
After all creatures have eaten their fill.
The first coming light sends them back to their dens,
At last, the whole world is still.

When the moon sinks low and surrenders the sky
To the sun, which lights all of Earth.
Grieving may start for all those who died.
At last ends the night of the Crimson Thirst.

People know they can wander the streets
At night for another whole year.
People can walk and stare at their feet
Without being consumed by fear.

But when another year passes and again the moon rises,
We creatures will again roam the Earth.
We will be back to claim our prizes,
For we own the night of the Crimson Thirst.

……

For Imouto-chan, who lost the title and the 'right' to write this poem to me in a thumb war. Ha ha!!!
