N I I L O

SAGA ONE: DESTINY

EPISODE ONE: SECRETS (1)

It’s a hot day on this summer afternoon. There are two rather “cool” looking convertibles parked outside a gas station in the middle of a dry road, basically no where. One of the convertibles is spray painted bright orange with a fire design going across it. The other convertible is a simple red one. Several minutes later, the door to the old, dirty gas station opens. Two teenage males walk out. One is a visibly older brown skinned male and is very tall. He’s wearing a black hat, a black cape, a long, black shirt and blue pants. His name is DAVID.

The second male looks a lot younger, although he’s the same age as his friend. He has the same complexion as well. He has his brown dreadlocks stopping a little past his shoulders. His clothes are unique as well, being all black with a giant flare design going across his shirt. His name is STEVEN.

Steven stretches his arms. “Well, that was fun.” He says sarcastically. He looks at David. “Say David, why did you have to bring your stepsister? We could have lived without her oh-so important negative comments about everything.” He adds.

David laughs. “Sorry Steve, but I have to. My mom wanted me to introduce her to my friends so she wouldn’t feel so alone. And besides, Paige isn’t all that bad. You just got to get to know her first.”

“I think we all know enough about her already. She wouldn’t stop talking…” Steven replies, somewhat bitterly.

Suddenly, two girls walk out the gas station, both around the same age. The taller, lighter girl, is named PAIGE. She’s light skinned and has long, light brown hair. She’s wearing pink eye contacts. She’s dressed in tight clothing and long boots.

The second girl, CHRISTY, a bit more average looking than Paige. She has medium length black hair, and brown skin. She has bright brown eyes. She’s dressed in simple clothes.

“See? Look at her, still talking.” Steven says, pointing at Paige and Christy. Paige talks like somewhat of a ditzy valley-girl, despite not being from the “valley”. She’s talking and giggling like a typical girly school girl to Christy, who’s playing games on her cell phone, nodding her head in agreement to everything Paige says as if she’s paying attention. David and Steven take the gas pipe and stick in their cars. The simple red convertible belongs to David and the bright, fiery one belongs to Steven. The two girls make it to the boys. Paige, wearing “cute” sunglasses, takes out an umbrella to shield herself from the heat.

“God, it’s so hot out here.” She complains.

“Well yeah, it’s like, ninety degree.” Christy answers. She walks to Steven. “Arturo should be out soon. I guess he’s getting his last minute shopping done.” She teases.

“So that’s his name?” Paige asks. David, Christy, and Steven look at her. Christy nods.

“Yeah, Arturo Andres Rodriguez.” She answers.

Paige giggles in an annoying, teeny bopper-ish voice. “He’s cute!”

“I’m…glad you think so, but I’m not into the whole long hair, girly boy look.” Christy replies.

“Well, who cares?” Paige says. She looks at the gas station as Arturo walks out, carrying a bag of Doritos. Paige takes out a blow pop and begins sucking on it in a seductive matter. “All that matters is what’s in his pants.”

David, Steven and Christy look at Paige with a disgusted look on their faces as she giggles. Arturo is same age as everyone else. His brown hair is really long, much longer than the other two girls. He is a Spanish male and has dark, brown eyes. His style of clothing are long shirts and baggy jeans nearly twice his size. He is very small, especially for a male. Arturo walks to David. He begins to feel uncomfortable as he notices Paige staring, watching his every move. After pumping their gas, David and Steven take the gas pipe out of their car.

“Is everyone ready?” David asks.

Steven nods. “Yup.” He says.

“Well then, let’s go!” David says as he hops in his red convertible.

“Byyye!” Christy says cutely, waving at David and Arturo as she winks. Christy gets in the fiery convertible along with Steven. Arturo begins to get in David’s car, however, Paige stands behind him, eyeing him up and down, looking very pleased. Uncomfortable again, Arturo opens the door and sits in the backseat. Paige perkily walks to the other side of the car and sits in the backseat next to Arturo. They look at each other. Arturo looks somewhat scared, while Paige looks happy.

“Hi!” She says. Arturo shyly waves. David and Steven pull out from the gas station and speeds down the long, empty, road.

Several hours later, the group of five is in a football stadium, watching an intense football team from their home state, Delaware, and a team from another state, Maine. Maine scores a field goal. The audience cheers loudly. Steven shakes his head and David yells in anger.

“What the hell are they doing down there? If they keep this up, we’re gonna lose and more importantly, I’m gonna lose fifty bucks!” He complains.

Christy giggles. “Oh well, you might as well give me my money now because…Delaware is not going to score a point any time soon.”

Arturo watches the game in slight amusement. He doesn’t care about of the outcome of the game. It has no impact on him. Paige looks at him and offers him some of her popcorn. Not knowing what to do, Arturo simply stares at it.

“Popcorn?” Paige asks.

“Uh… Sure.” Arturo takes a handful of popcorn and stuffs it in his mouth. Paige giggles.

“I might as well have given you the whole bag.” She jokes, causing her and Arturo both to laugh. Christy looks at the direction of the laughter. She looks a little bothered by it.

The audience cheers loudly again, much louder than before. Christy looks at David and smiles deviously. Angered, David digs in his pocket, takes out the money and slams it in Christy’s hands.

That night, David pulls up in front of Arturo’s house. It’s a simple one-story home surrounded by trees, almost isolated from the rest of the city.

“Well, here we are…” David says, annoyed that he lost to Christy.

“Thanks David.” Arturo says.

Paige looks at him and smiles. “Bye. Maybe we’ll see each other around. School?”

Arturo nods. “Yeah, I guess.” Paige slightly giggles. Arturo gets out of the car and walks to his house. Paige waves as David drives off.

Arturo walks in his after being out for most of the night. He closes the door behind him. “Dad, I’m home!” He yells. He receives no answer.

“Dad!” Arturo yells again. Once again, he receives no answer. He slowly walks through the living room and to the kitchen. A small notepad is lying on the kitchen tape, signed by “Noel”. Arturo rolls his eyes.

“This won’t be good. These notes are always negative...”

Arturo picks up the note and begins reading it. It reads: ‘Arturo, I won’t be home now. Unfortunately, there has been a change of plans. Bible study will be longer than originally planned, so I won’t be home. There are some fish sticks in the freezer. I won’t be home until late, so please fix them yourself. I’m sorry for the inconvenience. Your father, Minister Noel.’

Arturo groans in annoyance. “Told you…or me, whatever.” He says. He sighs and tosses the note back on the table. “Well then, I guess I won’t eat…again.”

Sadly, Arturo walks off to his room.

Arturo walks in his dark room and shuts the door behind him. He turns on the lights. He rubes his eyes, as the sudden brightness in his room is too much for them. He takes off his shirt hangs it up in his closet. He stretches his arms as he yawns. He takes off the rest of his clothes and throws them on the floor, too lazy to hang them up. He turns off the lights and goes to bed.

Several hours later, deep into the night, Arturo begins to hear sounds coming from the outside, waking him up. He gets up and walks to his window to see what the sounds are. However, what he sees, is something so…horrible, so….scary. There are countless people running around screaming for their lives. It is frighteningly bright outside. As Arturo looks at the sky, the bright light gets even brighter. He gasps in shock as a gigantic comet surrounded in giant flames slowly makes its way towards his house, destroying everything in sight. The comet lands, setting off a huge explosion killing everyone and everything. Arturo closes his eyes and shields them as the explosion makes its way to him.

Suddenly, Arturo gasps and wakes up, quickly sitting up on the bed’s headboard. He’s sweating and breathing heavily. He wipes the sweat off his face with his arms. He sighs in relief. His door then opens, and in comes a man who looks around forty-to-fifty years of age. He’s brown skin, much darker than his “son” Arturo is. He’s wearing a typical Minister’s robe and a hat to go with it. It’s quite obvious that the two of them aren’t blood related. Arturo wipes his eyes.

“Hi dad.” He says, followed by a yawn and a stretch.

“Good morning, son.” His “father”, MINISTER NOEL, says. “Are you planning on sleeping all day? That’s a good way to keep your job.” He jokes.

Arturo, unfortunately, didn’t take it as such. His eyes perk up in shock, mixed in with fear. “I’m getting fired?” He asks in shock.

Noel laughs. “No, son, I was kidding around with you.” Arturo sighs in relief. “But if you want to get there on time, I suggest you get up now. I have to drive over to a friend’s house for a private sermon, so you’ll have to walk.”

Arturo sighs in disappointment. “Thanks…” He says.

That afternoon, Arturo is in a clothing store in a large mall, reading a magazine. Business is running slow today, and it shows by how empty the store is, as well as the mall as a whole. Arturo’s fellow co-workers, a taller, darker male and a blonde girl are playing around, touching and felling all over each other, giggling annoyingly. Arturo is agitated by this, but he doesn’t show it, and continues to read his magazine. Suddenly, someone walks in the store, catching everyone’s attention. The boy and the girl quickly get off each other. The girl takes a comb and begins combing her hair.

“Can we help you?” The blonde girl asks.

The person, who entered the store, a rather mysterious looking girl, about seventeen years of age, walks around the store. She has a unique presence and look to her. She’s a pale skinned Caucasian girl, with long, bright blue hair that matches her eyes, eyebrows and colored lips. She’s dressed in a simple dress and a pair of boots. She’s pretty, but something about her is just not right… Arturo looks up at her as well.

The woman walks up to the front desk, where Arturo is. The tall dark boy and the blonde look at her and quietly laugh amongst themselves, making fun of her.

“Business seems to be running slow today.” The mysterious woman says.

Arturo nods. “I guess.” He answers.

“I’m so bored… It’s times like this that makes me want to go back to school.” She says.

“I can’t agree on that one.” Arturo replies. The mysterious girl laughs.

“I’m Allison. You are?”

“Arturo Rodriguez.”

“Nice… ‘Rodriguez’.” The girl, Allison, repeats. “It’s hot.”

Arturo smiles. “Thanks.”

“Say, I’m going to go, but here’s my number.” Allison gives Arturo a tiny piece of paper with her number written on it. “Call me, maybe we can hang out sometime.” Allison winks and walks out the store. Arturo puts the number in his pocket as the blonde girl and the dark boy watch Allison leave. When she’s out of the sight, the two teens walk to Arturo.

“Do you know who that girl is?” The blonde girl says.

“Uh… Allison?” Arturo asks.

“Allison Cooper, don’t you know her?” The blonde girl asks again. Arturo shakes his head, wondering why his coworkers are in his business. “She’s a complete and total nutjob. There’s a rumor going around that she’s actually a witch and she casts spells that kills people and stuff.”

“Uh huh, and I also heard that she burnt this girl she didn’t like house down with her in it!” The tall, dark boy agrees.

Arturo crosses his arms at the utter stupidity of his coworkers. “Really?”

“Yeah!” The blonde girl says. “And you could totally tell. Just look at her. Everything about her screams ‘PSYCHO!’.” The blonde girl says, making hand movements to stress her point. The tall boy nods his head in agreement.

“Right…” Arturo says, bored with the way this conversation is going.

That night, Arturo returns home. He walks to his doorstep and takes out his keys. He begins to open the door until he hears a noise. He looks around his dark neighborhood. Nothing. He shrugs it off and continues to open his door again. He now hears another noise. It’s obviously that he is not the only one there. Someone, or something is there with him…watching him… He turns around again. He sighs in relief.

“Oh, Allison.”

Allison smiles. “Weren’t expecting company?”

“No.” Arturo chuckles shyly. “Not this late.”

Allison smiles deviously. “Aren’t you going to ask how I found out your address?”

“I wasn’t thinking about it… So uh…how?”

“I was strolling by and I saw you. Anyway, I was sorta hoping we could… You know, ‘hang out’.”

“Alright, but if my dad is home then-”

“Then so what? You’re not allowed to have friends over or something?” Allison says, cutting off Arturo.

Arturo says nothing. He unlocks his door and enters his house. Allison follows him inside. Unknowing to them, someone was watching him. A Caucasian teen their age is standing across the street from Arturo’s house, watching him, blending completely in the darkness. He steps out of the darkness when the door closes. The teen is brown eyed male with bright green hair, wearing what appears to be some sort of cult uniform. He takes a blade out of his pocket and looks at Arturo’s bedroom window, waiting for his time to strike…
