Chapter Two: Unusual Request
His first day of school went rather quickly. All through class he watched the brunette intently. His hazel eyes focused on her movement the entire day. When she sat down to lunch he sat close also watching the group of boys who were eyeing the girls as much as he was. When the bell rang for the end of the last class of the day he saw her leave with her friend, a smile on her face with no cares in the world. He sighed heavily as he too departed from the school heading down the unknown street, a plan forming in his head.

Faith was too preoccupied to really notice the exchange student that day. Her mother, after three months was finally returning home in two more days and Faith couldn’t wait to see her. After all three months was a long time for her to be away from her mom and on her own. Faith’s mother, Diana was a popular novelist whose stories were loved by millions and every once and awhile she needed to go on tour, well according to her editor she did. At this time she was touring around Europe and normally Faith was allowed to go on the trips but this time she had insisted on staying home since it was her junior year, which in her mind was the crucial year of high school before her senior year. Besides that she didn’t want to leave Sara again like she had last summer when her mother was touring around the United States. It had been a fun trip, one that Faith was thinking about with a slight smile on her face as she rounded the corner that led to her house. Earlier she had dropped off Sara promising to call her later in the evening. Finally she arrived at the white picket fence, which surrounded her large house and stopped at the gate when she heard the familiar cry off a small animal. Faith looked down and saw a skinny black cat looking up at her with yellow eyes.
“Well hello there fella” she replied sweetly petting him on his back as his tail wrapped around her leg, “Where did you come from? Are you lost little guy?” she asked as she petted his head and finally noticed the rainbow collar around his neck, “Oh. You’re owned by someone?” she said as he meowed and she examined the collar, “But I don’t see a license. It is a pretty collar though” the cat meowed, “I tell you what” she smiled as he continued to meow, “You’re pretty hungry aren’t you?” another meow, “Come on” she picked him up gently and felt his soft black fur against her skin, “I’ll take you inside and give you something to eat. But in the morning we’ll look for your owner, okay?”
The cat meowed and purred in agreement as she carried him into the gate and up the walkway that led to the front doors of her house. As she entered the two black doors the cat turned his head slightly staring back at the pavement behind him, his collar flashing a bit as the clouds in the sky began to move.

After changing out of her school clothes and into more comfortable ones, Faith carried in a plate of cream that the head cook, Marsha had prepared for the cat. She placed the bowl on her bedside table and the cat immediately walked over to it and began to lick. At first he seemed unsure about the taste, but after a few more seconds he was lapping it up graciously.
“Not used to such sweet stuff huh?” Faith giggled at his reaction as her purple pajama pants rubbed against her leg, “I’m not really sure what else to give you. We don’t have any pets around here?”
The cat meowed as if in appreciation making Faith smile even more.
“You’re welcome,” she added petting him gently on the back, “I still wish I knew who your owner was though. Or your name for that matter” she replied as he looked up and stared at her directly, “What am I going to call you until then?”
The cat’s eyes looked up at her intently and she felt a strange feeling in her head as he looked at her.
“Funny” she said aloud pulling away slightly, “It’s almost as if as if you are trying to tell me your name. But I can’t” she began but then shook her head about such nonsense, “That’s just silly.”
The phone suddenly rang and she jumped up to get it.
“Oh. That’s probably Sara stuck on some homework problem” she replied running to the door, “Enjoy the rest of your cream. I’ll be right back” she departed from the room.
The cat watched as she left and then jumped down to the floor heading for the door himself. He pushed his way through the door and stared down the hallway that he was now in. On the walls were many paintings and at the end of the hall he could see another door. He walked cautiously over to it, his collar flashing a lot brighter then it had before. When he arrived at the door he could see a bright light of color shining from underneath the door. The door began to swing slowly open as he stood there but then he heard her voice as she came back upstairs. With a loud bang the door shut. Faith heard it as she came into the hall and saw the black cat standing in front of the door. Perplexed she walked over to him and crouched down.
“Hey. What are you doing down here?” she petted him making him purr once more, “Are you lost? Are you trying to get somewhere? That’s silly” she chided herself as she scooped him up in her arms, “Where could you possibly go to through that door?” she carried him back to her room.
Meanwhile in a large fixer-upper kind of house on the other end of town he watched the light disappear from the crack under his door.
“I see” he said aloud to himself, “It looks like I am going to have to make my move sooner than I thought.”

The next day Faith left the cat in the capable hands of the servants of her house. She walked swiftly down the sidewalk unaware that he was once again watching her. Akito Namura watched as she met up once again with her best friend and the two of them hurried to get to school on time. As he sat down at his desk he again watched her, waiting for the perfect time to approach her all the while a look of sadness in his eyes. The night before he had spoken to them about his fears. The woman had told him that it was the best thing to do.
“You don’t have much time” the woman had replied her long curly dark hair bouncing up and down as her short chubby finger attempted to sew, “You only have a couple more days at most.”
“I know” Akito nodded.
“After all” the short skinny man with the mustache added, “You were the one who volunteered for this. It’s up to you to carry it out.”
“I know” he nodded this time a bit more irritated, “I’ll just have to grit my teeth and do it.”
“I have an idea” the woman replied making him look up at her, “I am planning on making a batch of cookies tomorrow, why don’t you use that as an opportunity?”
“What?” he said slowly and then nodded in agreement.
After much consideration Akito figured out the perfect place to start. The class was given a project and un-doubtly Faith would be in the library sometime that day to get reading materials. As he stood in the dark corner where the books on her subject were located he waited patiently going over in his head the best way to approach.
“Just relax” he told himself, “Take it nice and easy. You don’t want to scare the girl after all” he sighed and then turned around abruptly as he saw her enter the aisle.
He placed on his glasses and pretended to be reading a book that he casually grabbed from the shelf. When Faith saw him she immediately stopped surprised.
“Oh. You’re the new exchange student right, Akito?” she asked.
“Yes” he nodded bowing his head.
“You looking for materials on the project?”
“Yes I am,” he said in a soft voice.
“I’m sorry I haven’t introduced myself yet. It’s nice to meet you. I ‘m Faith Montgomery.”
“I know who you are Miss Montgomery” he nodded a second time finally turning fully around, “I was told by someone that you found my cat.”
“Oh is he yours? The black one with the big yellow eyes and the rainbow collar?” she asked excitedly.
“Yes, he is.”
“Oh of course. No wonder I didn’t recognize him. You’re new to town. I suppose you would like to have him back? You can come by and pick him up at my house this afternoon?” she suggested as she pulled out a piece of paper to write down her address.
“Actually I would like to have him back” he interrupted her his voice shaking slightly, “But could you bring him to my house instead? It would be better.”
“Oh?”
“Yes, you see, I know this is gonna sound kind of unusual but my mother doesn’t like me to go to other people’s houses. She’s afraid I might get kidnapped” he added but then thought, “What am I saying?”
“Oh. All right. I can bring him by” she agreed a bit confused.
“Great” he nodded writing his name down in a hurry, “Here is my address” he handed it to her.
She stared at the paper and smiled.
“Oh you live in the old house” she replied knowingly.
“You know where this is?” he asked surprised.
“Yes, I’ve lived in this town my whole life. I know exactly where this is” she pocketed the paper.
“Good. Well I will see you this afternoon. Good afternoon to you Miss Montgomery” he moved past her.
“Uh just a moment, Akito” she called to him making him stop in his tracks, “You can call me Faith if you want” she added making him look back, “You don’t have to be so formal.”
“Uh” he hesitated, “If you don’t mind. I’d rather not just yet. See you later” he replied hurriedly and then took off.
Faith stared at the paper in her hand and then shook her head still a little confused.
“Kidnapped?” she said aloud, “In this town?” she scoffed with a light chuckle.
(Next Scene)
As Akito headed towards his last class of the day he thought only one thing determinedly.
“Kizmet” he thought, “You have better done your part, because this afternoon I am beginning mine” he stopped to look out the window noticing the formation of the clouds, “It can only be two more days tops, till all of this ceases to exist.”
