The next morning Jack awoke on the hill with a loud yawn and a stretch of his arms. He looked next to him and noticed that Samantha was still sleeping soundly. He smiled and shook her gently.
“Wake up” he replied quietly, “It’s morning.”
Samantha opened one eye sleepily and looked back at him, with a bit of surprise.
“Oh right” she sat up, “I remember. For a minute there I thought it was all just a dream.”
“Well thanks” he smirked.
“I’m sorry. It’s just I’m worried about Sarah that’s all.”
“Well we’re going to take care of that problem right now” he took her hand.
“How?”
“You’ll see. But first let’s get you some breakfast.”
“Um. I’m not exactly a breakfast eating person” she replied as they walked back down the hill and into the woods once more.
“What? Since when?”
“Well I’m not a morning person anymore.”
“Oh” he said with a bit of a frown, “That’s okay if you don’t want to eat anything” he offered his hand to her.
“Actually” she replied, “I am kind of hungry. I haven’t eaten anything since yesterday afternoon.”
“Then no problem” he grinned taking her hand, which this time she accepted.
(Next Scene)
They found the others back in the thicket eating all sorts of delicious foods. Swift was happily munching on a humongous bone, his tongue slurping each and every taste. Knobby had a bowl of some type of liquid and beef that resembled beef stew in his hands. Wooly was chewing on a bunch of fruits that were lying before him. And Lily was sweetly nibbling a few berries that she had found and placed on a large leaf. Jack walked over and knelt before the food, beckoning her over.
“So what’s your pleasure?” he asked Samantha who stood dumbfounded at the scene before her.
“Good morning Sunflower” Wooly replied.
“Oh uh good morning” she said absentmindly, “What did you say Jack?”
“What would you like to eat?” he chuckled.
“Oh. Does it matter? I mean I can have berries or fruit,” she indicated to the food she saw.
Jack started to laugh. Lily and Wooly looked at each other with smiles, while Swift stopped licking his bone for the moment.
“What’s so funny?” she asked.
“Well do you remember last night, what we told you about this place?” Jack replied, “That it is a world of dreams.”
“Uh huh” she nodded.
“You can have anything you want. All you have to do is wish for it.”
“Wish for it?”
“Mhm. Anything you want. It could even be chocolate cake, oh except you don’t like chocolate.”
“Anything huh?” she felt uncertain.
“Mhm. Give it a try.”
“All right” she looked to the sky, “I wish for a lemon poppy seed muffin?”
She waited and waited but nothing appeared.
“Um” Jack replied trying not to laugh again, “Try again, only this time really mean it.”
“I did really mean it.”
“No you didn’t. You hesitated. As if you were afraid it wouldn’t happen. It won’t happen that way. The wish knows that’s not what you really wanted. Ask for what you really want this time.”
“Okay” she closed her eyes and took a deep breath and smiled, “Okay” she repeated, “I know what I want.”
Suddenly before her a muffin floated down and landed in her outstretched hand, making her open her eyes in the process. She gazed at in wonder and excitement.
“I don’t believe it, it worked” she exclaimed.
“What did you wish for?” Swift asked coming over.
“It’s a chocolate chip muffin. Would you like some?” she broke off a piece.
“No thank you” Swift shook his head, “But I thought Jack said that you don’t like chocolate.”
“Ah” Jack replied taking the piece that Swift had given up, “I said she didn’t like chocolate, not chocolate chip. Mmm. This is really good,” he said as he ate the muffin.
“Mhm” she nodded with a smile enjoying her breakfast.
“Good choice” he grinned.
Knobby placed his bowl down on the ground and it instantly disappeared. He pulled his pipe out and began to clean it.
“Well” he replied, “Now that everyone’s had their breakfast, where are we going?”
A small cup of milk appeared before Samantha and she drank some. Jack finished off another piece of muffin then turned to the others.
“Wooly and I thought it best that we’d go visit Christmas town.”
Samantha spit out her milk almost spraying Swift who stepped out of the way just in time. She coughed a little, gagging.
“Sweetheart are you all right?” Lily asked in concern.
“I. I’m fine. What did you just say? We’re going where?”
“Christmas town. You know? The North Pole” Jack answered.
“That’s what I thought you said,” she said wearily, “Jack be serious.”
“I am being serious. Why do you keep saying that?”
“But the North Pole? I haven’t believed in that place, since I was like twelve years old.”
“Exactly. And that’s about the right time” he snapped his fingers.
“It’s here? It actually exists?”
“Well of course it exists love” Lily replied, “If it didn’t, where would Santa Claus live.”
Samantha placed her head on her knees.
“What’s the matter Sam?” Swift asked her with a sad expression on his face.
“It’s nothing. It’s just.”
“It’s hard to believe right?” Jack finished.
“Well yea it is.”
“Look anything that can come from your imagination can exist in this place” Jack explained, “The impossible is the possible. There is no thing as impossible here. Anything you can think up will happen. Including things that you haven’t believed in since you were a kid.”
“So Santa Claus, reindeer. The whole thing. It’s here?”
“Mhm. The North Pole is also where we need to find someone else who needs to join up.”
“Someone else?”
“Yes” Wooly replied, “Just like you and Jack have the four of us, your sister and Taylor also had four creatures. One of them resides in Christmas town.”
“What is it? An elf?” she joked.
“Good deduction love” Lily smiled, “That’s exactly what she is.”
“She?”
“Look we could answer as many questions that you want” Jack interrupted, “But we’re wasting time that way. We should get going.”
“All right” she nodded standing up.
“You do remember where the secret passage is don’t you lad? Knobby asked.
“Yea I remember. Come on let’s get a move on before it gets too late.”
