Faces down

Souls hidden

Behind grinning masks

Ugly leers

Like grimaces

Hiding

What is there so terrible?

Why the need to run?

Turning away

Nothing kind

In this cruel world

Twisted innocence

Another kind of hate

To them

It is not wrong

To lie

To kill another

For what?

Money

It is their security

But it is not secure

False protection

In this harsh world

Hidden behind these masks

These painted smiles

Running in circles

Blindly

Like a fool

We are all fools

And we pity ourselves

Who else will pity us?

Mourn when we are gone?

Cry when things are hopeless,

And we have no tears to cry?

Nobody

That is our harsh reality

Our bitter truth

We are all alone

Alone in a world

Where we have made too many mistakes

And we know it

Revenge

Has made fools of us

Love dares to taunt us

Our mistakes

Make those less bitter laugh

Yes

We are fools

And we know it

Names and titles

Giving us

Our false importance

Our false securities

No real life to live

No real love to give

We are selfish

Lost in our own self-pity

Our own make-believe importance

Desperately clutching to our threads

Of closely woven reality

A reality

That doesn’t exist

What can we do?

We can only run

But we do so much of that

Already

Run from our mistakes

Which we blame on another

No

We can do nothing

But sit

And watch our world crumble around us

We are helpless

Victims of our own mistakes

Watching

From our gilded windows

Show me

That you care

You can’t

Because you don’t

Nobody does

We are all

Empty shells

Caught up

And tossed aside

In the current

Tireless tide

Draw us in

Push us out

Come and go

This is our world

An empty promise
