A/N: OK, first “chapter” detailing the material that is concerned with the Kyínturna! The next chapter will be my play Komendred i Vólendrend which I’ve done my best to attempt to put into a narrative format. I have also published the play in it’s own format under “Komendred i Volendred” if you want to go and read it in it’s original version.
Durnai i Kyínta:
“Cold and Darkness”
General Kaimekdur stood among the trees bordering the edge of a valley that was now covered in several inches of a strange white powder which was encrusted with Ice. The ground was extremely slippery; some of the Dur’Kor’Dae were losing their balance and grabbing onto trees to keep their footing. Kaimekdur gazed across the empty valley. His troops had halted among the trees. The Dur’Kor’Dae Army was heading for the encampment of the Thrak’Kor’Dae. Their goal was to take control of the Volcanoes of Fire and their powers for their Lord whom the rest of the world called Thangûldur.
Suddenly, in front of General Kaimekdur, the white powder swirled about in a strange mist. From it, a being appeared.
This being was of the Kor’Dae, this was obvious because of his command over the strange powder and Ice. His hair was a chilling pale blue, and his eyes flashed with a great anger, as cold as the Volcanoes of Fire were hot.
“Who are you, to bring your army here to disturb the neutrality of the Kyínturna?” said the blue-haired being, folding his arms and glaring at General Kaimekdur.
“I am Dred-Kaimekdur of the Dur’Kor’Dae. It is custom that I have your name,” Kaimekdur replied as he held his face in a quiet calm, like the night sky is calm with its many stars.
“My name you shall not have but you may note that I am the Commander of the Ice Legions of the Kyínturna’Kor’Dae,” the being answered forcefully.
“If I may not have your name, then at least inform me of whom you serve, Commander?” Kaimekdur asked coldly.
“If you refer to the accursed battle between the Kor and the Dark Lord, we have no part in either side. We intend to keep our neutrality; none of the Kor’Dae save those of the Kyínturna, are permitted to come forth into our territory. Be gone!” The Commander of the Ice Legions gestured with his arm back the way Kaimekdur and his army had come.
“You dare to command me or my army?! We are of the Dur’Kor”Dae, we take orders from none save the Lord of the World whom you call Thangûldur! How dare you!”
“Do you wish to challenge the power of the Kyínturna?!”
“To war! Come forth servants of the Seductive Night, in the mighty name of the Lord of the World, may his Iron Hand fall upon his enemies!!” shouted General Kaimekdur, as he spoke these words, the Dur’Kor’Dae came forth from the trees.
A mighty host they were in their Darkness, raven hair flying in the wind that now blew with a malignance. Oh, how the Wind knew when blood was to be shed. For it seemed that neither General Kaimekdur nor the Commander of the Ice Legions intended to surrender.
The Commander of the Kyínturna turned in a marvelous swirl of white robes and blue hair; he threw his arms wide and shouted: “Ándámene dredmánae traedûmene Dur’Kor’Dae!”
The wind raged in a great wrath of ice and the powder. From the other side of the valley the Dur’Kor’Dae beheld a sight of such majesty that some of them fell, or rather slipped upon the Ice, to their knees.
“Stand up you fools! We fight to the death in the name of the Lord of the World whom we serve!!!” shouted Kaimekdur , and yet as he shouted these powerful words, he felt in the recesses of his heart, a small pang of fear.
In rank the Kyínturna came, seeming to fly down the slope like white angels of despair with a deadly fire in their eyes. They carried spear and sword in hand and wore white robes similar to their Commander’s. The cruel wind blew about their white and ice-blue hair, pulling it away from their pale faces and giving them a harsh beauty.
General Kaimekdur stared in awe, for the Kyínturna did not march, but slid on top of the powder; their feet strapped each to one thin and flat sheet of ice, slightly curved at the front end.
“Ánûmene!” Kaimekdur shouted, unsheathing his sword and waving it above his head.
The Dur’Kor’Dae came to meet this strange new enemy with their swords and their Darkness. In a great driving hurricane, the powder came at them in waves and drove them back. The cold wind numbed Kaimekdur’s hand and he dropped his sword on the frozen ground. As he bent to pick it up, the Commander of the Ice Legions appeared before him in a gust of white powder.
“As you can see, General Kaimekdur, we of the Kyínturna are not to be contested, yes?” said the Commander of the Ice Legions. General Kaimekdur straightened with his sword in hand.
“You have neither the Kor nor the Lord of the World on your side so we shall be victorious!” Kaimekdur raised his sword and commanded his army to kneel where they were standing. They lifted up their faces to the swirling powder-filled sky, and began to sing. A great Darkness came forth from the Dur’Kor’Dae into the sky, but it was blocked out by the ever increasing powder.
“We of the Kyínturna do not fear Thangûldur or the Kor, we are neutral unless we are disturbed by fools like you, General Kaimekdur,” said the Commander of the Ice Legions smiling coldly, “It is time to die.”
“Behol—”
From behind Kaimekdur was struck with a spear of a Ice which had a freezing quality. He fell forward at the feet of the Commander of the Ice Legions.
Kaimekdur raised his head and stared up at the Commander of the Ice Legions.
“DUR’KOR’DAE! CAPTURE THAT MADE OF ICE WHICH THEY STRAP TO THEIR FEET! TAKE THEM BACK TO OUR MASTER!” and thus were his last words spoken as the final Darkness fell upon Dred-Kaimekdur, General of the Dur’Kor’Dae.
