Afterglow

Held close; a nose butts an ear as lips
whisper sweet nothings.
Entwined in clasping arms and
wrapped in simple cotton, they
watch eyes flutter, heavy lidded,
highlighted by the slowly fading
flicker of candlelight. The warmth soothing as
skin glitters from clinging sweat. Lips,
they glisten in the aftermath
of bruising kisses. Lying still
in the afterglow, the world seems to shimmer;
dreamlike and slow.
