You stand before your King with the little humility you can muster
Aren’t you even going to wonder why you’re so afraid of submission?
He holds out his soft hand with the ethereal smile of a doomed leper
And waits but you don’t have the strength to reach out for absolution.

“Go back.” Will he whisper to you and turn around, “But I will still wait.”
................................................Don’t…
....................................................................Forget…
............................................................................................Me…
Will he plead; a sovereign’s soul refusing to let itself believe in fate
His deep voice adding just one more macabre touch to his symphony

In times so long gone they seem like childhood dreams sent to oblivion,
You met three times…
........................................One in mystery…
.......................................................................Two in love
................................................................................................Three in lust …
The fifth may never be; fourth was neither joy nor pain, a silent question:
Three times three make nine, but what years are enough to earn your trust?

With no answer both turned their back to promises they should’ve made
Once more the King gave her leave to go achieve purity and excellence
She knew he’d taught her…
...................................................Belief…
..................................................................Miracles…
......................................................................................Hope forbidden to fade…
Nothing else would do, for their Kingdom was not of Heaven but Conscience.

AN: This is not inspired by the film Kingdom of Heaven, but I feel like a complete copycat…the last line is just a remake of the “Kingdom of Heaven, Kingdom of Conscience, or nothing” quote basically…it wasn’t intended to be, but I must admit I'm mind-blown by that quote! So, disclaimer: I did not mean to copy Kingdom of Heaven and this poem is not inspired by it...it just came out that way!I also have to clarify this poem because I truly believe it’s very confusing…it’s about a couple in love (clearly) but the woman refuses to be with the man because she hasn’t “found herself” yet…but oh well, everyone can find a different meaning to it ;) And ficpress completely fucked up my formatting so I had to put the "......" everywhere to get the spacing right sigh oh well....

Love,

Mia
