Prologue

A woman rested her head on the crisp white hospital pillow. The air around her smelled of death and grief. She sat up and took a sip of water. Thinking back on the past week made her realize how lucky she was to be alive. A nurse walked in and took her blood.

“Excuse me miss but do you know when I will get to leave and go home?” The nurse smiled at her and answered her with a sick sweetness that seemed to spread around the hospital nurses.

“I’ll ask the doctor but I don’t know the chance of you getting out in a couple days. You’ll probably be around a week or so maybe more.” The nurse walked out and the woman laid back and sighed. Why does everyone treat me this way? I didn’t do anything wrong. They think I’m crazy or something. A doctor walked in and began running tests. The woman found this a good opportunity to ask about getting to leave. Maybe the doctor could answer the question better than the sickly sweet nurse had.

“Doctor do you know when I will be able to leave the hospital? I really need to get home and get back to my life after what happened to me.” The doctor smiled at her and she realized he wasn’t going to answer her very well either.

“We want to keep you for observation for awhile because we want to look into what happened to you.” The woman looked at him intensely and gave him the finger to his back as he walked away.

“This hospital is full of boneheads. I’m convinced.” She looked out her room window and saw a man with a clipboard coming into her room. Please tell me this isn’t a psychiatrist. I don’t think I could handle that right now.

“Hello Miss Blucan, I’m Doctor Gold and I’ll be asking you some questions about what happened to you.” The woman smiled at the doctor and answered bitterly.

“What the hell do I have left to tell you people? I told you everything so let me go home.” The doctor made some notes on his clipboard and she suddenly felt like kicking him in the balls and running away with his clipboard.

“Are you angry about what happened to you Miss?”

“No, I simply want to leave the damn hospital you dipshit. I had to visit my mom for three years while she was in a coma and then when she woke up she had Alzheimer’s. Then I had to spend another painful two years taking care if her until she died. So leave me alone you jackass.” The doctor made another note on his clipboard and got up to walk out. Before he left he turned to her.

“It was lovely meeting you Miss.” She replied.

“I wish I could say the same.” She added a smug smirk and he frowned as he walked out. She rested her head back and wished she could leave. She heard the door swing open and she figured the nurse was in to take blood again. Suddenly someone spoke and the voice brought chills to her body. Chills that she had experienced before.

“Hello Sarah.” She looked up and saw who spoke, and then she fainted into a deep sleep as the visitor sat at the chair next to her. The visitor spoke again.

“Its lovely to see you again my dear. I’ve missed you.”
