Pretty Lies

What pretty lies; what velvet words!
I'd cry again and bear the hurt!
I'd bleed again for that silken tongue—
To breathe the words that made us one!

Oh what a word—it's quite a cry!
Oh what a thing to make me die!
I'd scream for such a sweet untruth—
I'd breathe out the same words to you!

What exquisite falsity; the satiny speech!
What mask is it you show to me?
I'd bear a thousand wounds for this—
The lying tongue to bear this kiss!

Oh what poetry—yet what a lie!
Oh what truths do you mean to deny?
What prose is it in each pretty phrase?
Aren't these easy lies so depraved?

Oh how beautiful—yet what fiction it is!
What a phantom hides behind all of this!
The dearest words make delightful deception—
How lovely are these misconceptions!

What pretty lies; what velvet words—
That I was seduced is so absurd!
How dare you breathe these lies to me?
Such lies breed only misery!
