There was a girl who just had been
Through a day she’d never seen
Before.

I knew her face, she knew my name;
Nothing would ever be the same
For sure.

Sometimes love
Takes the very best of me,
Stings just like a bumble bee.

Sometimes love
Writes its name in fiery rage,
Signs between my shoulder blades

Out of fear.

To someone who I think I knew
I know that our love is true
To me.

I can’t be this, I must be strong
But still I feel my heart will long
To be free;

Chained inside this fragile frame
Swords and guns could never tame
My plea.

Oh my heart
Beats up against my ribs
Like a child within a crib

Oh my heart
Knows you like a favorite tune
Makes me wish that very soon

You’ll be near.

Pages all began to flow
But you still would never know
It’s for you.

Lines of verse and bits of heart
An anonymous love would be a part
I’d live though.

These words will have to do for now
Because I still do not know how
To woo.

I wish your heart were close to mine
Because I feel so left behind
Without you.

Oh my soul
Bursting out through the seams
Releasing all my wildest dreams.

Oh my soul
Knows that somewhere in your smile
You’d like to spend a little while

With me.

There was a girl I wished could see
This very different side of me.
