Forbidden

----, we must never say its name.
Bury it underground
Where it can’t hurt anybody.
But like radioactivity,
It seeps through the soil.
Come, come to kill us again.
Break our spirits with its voice…
With its oh so beautiful voice…

Feeling the weakness already,
It’s like torment in my head.
(“dreams are made winding…”)
It’s probably the very force
That put life on Earth.
But for us, it is
Forbidden.
Four little letters.

But it’s so cliché, a word.
Used so carelessly that it ceases
To have a meaning,
To have anything.
And you use it on me…
But I know you don’t mean it.
And my mother always told me,
“If you can’t say something nice,
Don’t say anything at all.”

Can you guess what my word is?
This little four letter word?
It’s not a curse word, I promise.
Though some consider it
A true curse.
A plague, even.
Synonym: infatuation.
My word.
My forbidden word.

Love.
