One dead man,
Hanging from a tree,
Swinging,
Swaying, silently,
Passing slowly,
He smiled at me,
Saying nothing,
And so I walked on.

Two dead men,
Hanging from a tree,
Swinging,
Swaying silently,
Passing slowly,
They winked at me,
Saying nothing,
And so I walked on.

Three dead men,
Hanging from a tree,
Swinging,
Swaying silently,
Passing quickly,
They grinned at me,
Saying nothing,
And so I walked on.

Four dead men,
Hanging from a tree,
Swinging,
Swaying silently,
Passing quickly,
They laughed at me,
Yet said nothing,
And so I walked on.

Five dead men,
Hanging from a tree,
Swinging,
Swaying silently,
Running past,
They screamed at me,
Yet said nothing,
And so I ran on.

Six dead men,
Hanging from a tree,
Swinging,
Swaying in the breeze,
As I hurried past,
They called to me,
Asking if I could help them down,
And-

Seven dead men,
Hanging from a tree,
Singing, laughing merrily.
