I’ve never been the smooth talking guy. I never been a guy to get the ladies or even get a lady. Until two years ago, she was beautiful and amazing. Her name was Lily. Her eyes were like deep pools that you could swim in if you looked at them long enough. Her hair resembled the red of changing leaves in the fall. And I loved her more than any guy had ever loved a girl. A sandy blond haired guy looked up from his book and glanced out the window. He surveyed the small street in New Jersey. He saw the neighbors walking around. Couples held hands in attempt to warm themselves from the crisp autumn air. He put his head in his hands and sighed.

“Dan, you have got to cheer up man. Its been a year since it happened and every time you look out the window you think of her and you get all depressed. Why don’t you come out with me and Janelle tonight? Janelle is bringing her friend Margaret and we could all double date. You need to stop thinking about Lily. Whoever she was.” Dan turned around and stared at his roommate.

“Jack, I will stop thinking about Lily when you date a girl for at least three months before having sex with her.” Jack scoffed off his bet.

“Dude you know that’s impossible for me.” Dan smiled back.

“Then I guess I win.” With that Jack walked out and left Dan to stare out the window again. This immediately put his thoughts to Lily. Everything about her was perfect. And yet they couldn’t be together. For two weeks they had spent every minute together. They talked about everything and they had achieved something that would never come true: love. They had loved each other more than life itself and before Dan could tell her this she went away as quickly as she had come. Dan remembered how she had smelled of vanilla and aloe. He started thinking about when they had first met. He began to drift off. That day in the CD store when she came into my life for so brief a time. I remember that day like it was yesterday. The leaves were just starting to turn orange and I had just broken up with my girlfriend Mya. Dan’s head slunk down onto the desk and he began to remember the day that turned his life upside down forever.
