Dan remembered exactly how the day had started. Just like any ordinary day. He got up, went to class, got a latte, and headed off to work at the CD store in Washington D.C. Dan was living in D.C. at the time since his dad was working with the government. So he got into a college there and settled down with a fiery raven haired fashion student named Mya. Dan and Mya had been on rocky ground for awhile because Dan thought Mya had been sleeping around. The night before Dan had found Mya in bed with his neighbor and Dan had just walked out, telling Mya he would talk to her later after he had time to think. Dan walked down the street to the CD store and finding that his coworker was already there, he let himself inside the store.

“Hey Dan the Man, what’s going on this fine fall afternoon?” Dan couldn’t help but smile. His coworker, Wookie, was by far one of the funniest guys ever and had gotten his nickname from the fact that he saw Star Wars Episode III close to thirty times in the theaters and that he could do the best impression of Chewbacca.

“Not so hot Wookie but thanks for asking.” Dan put the store sign on Open and started getting ready for customers, even though nobody came in until at least three o’clock and it was now one thirty.

“Dan the Man, tell the Wookie what happened.” Dan looked at Wookie and just sat there. Wookie took a stab in the dark.

“Let me guess lady troubles with Miss Mya?”

“Geez Wookie how did you know?” Dan took a sip of his coffee and prepared to tell Wookie everything because he knew Wookie would ask. Dan looked over at Wookie and noticed he was about to open his mouth so he thought he would just start. “I came home yesterday and found Mya in bed with the neighbor. I left and stayed at my parent’s house. And here I am now. That was the condensed version for you.”

“Sorry man. Have you talked to her yet?” Dan looked up from his coffee.

“Nope but I’m going to call her right now. I’m going to go in back to use the store room. Be back in a minute.”

“Good luck Dan the Man.”

“Thanks Wookie.” Dan grabbed his coffee and his bag, and went into the back store room. He turned on his phone and dialed Mya’s number. After about four rings she picked up.

“Dan listen I’m so sorry about what happened. I just want to tell you…” Dan cut her off.

“Mya forget it. I’ll keep it short and sweet. I know you don’t have class today so go to the apartment and get all your stuff.” Before Mya could say a word Dan kept going.

“Lock up the place and bring your key here to the store. You can stay with Karen until you find your own place. I’m sure she won’t mind.”

“Dan I wanted to work things out and fix things between us. Can’t we do that?” Dan wanted so hard to say yes but he knew better.

“Mya, once a cheater always a cheater. No we can’t work it out. I’ll see you later. Please just keep it civil.” Dan hung up before she said anything else. Dan hated breaking up with people. Usually it was him who was getting dumped but it still stung to have to break it off with the other person. Dan walked back into the store, took his book out of his bag, and began reading. Tom Sawyer was his favorite book of all time even if it was about a little kid. Dan looked around and noticed Wookie was gone somewhere. Dan then noticed there was a note on the desk that said Wookie would be out getting coffee and he would be back in around fifteen minutes. Dan settled in to read his book when the bell on the door sounded and he noticed a red haired girl had walked in. Dan just realized he was single again and he looked at the girl and noticed she wasn’t just pretty, she was beautiful. She looked around a little and finally he talked to her.

“Can I help you with anything Miss?” Dan was hoping she would say yes.

“Actually you can help me. I’m looking for someone. Maybe you know him?” Dan was swearing inside. She was probably here to see Wookie.

“Maybe what’s his name?”

“Dan Porter.” Dan was suddenly flabbergasted. She was here to see him but he had never met her before. Why is she here? What does it matter she’s beautiful. Dan finally got the courage to talk.

“That’s me. Do I know you?” The girl seemed to hesitate for a moment, but answered.

“I was sent here to ask a favor from you. By my master.” Dan saw flashing lights go off in his head and sirens started blaring. This girl was sent here for my help by her master. Is she a slave? Oh God what am I going to do? This was all so sudden for Dan and he felt a tiny bit overwhelmed.

“I don’t even know you and you were sent here by you master for my help. Are you a slave?” Dan noticed that the girl had started to tremble and Dan’s instinct was to hold her so she would stop.

“I’m not a real slave but in some ways I am. Yes I have a master and I do need your help. My master chose you to help me.” Dan’s jaw dropped.

“I was chosen to help you. This can’t be right. Let’s take a step back here. What’s your name?”

“My name is Lily. Please we are wasting time. I have to tell you the mission so we can get started. We only have so much time.”

“Ok Lily. Tell me what’s going on so I can help you.” Dan immediately regretted saying these words.

“What I am about to say is going to shock you. I wanted to prepare you for that.” Dan was getting more confused by the minute.

“If it’s going to shock me then just tell me and get it over with.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes tell me.”

“I’m dead.”
