Leotards, Pointe Shoes and Men…. What Could Go Wrong?

CHAPTER 1

Captains’ offices.

“You’re having delusions of grandeur, Anastacia!” Julie Anna Mc Cowl said to the newest addition to the World Dance Academy’s Bulgarian team.

“I’m defying gravity, Julie Anna. Nobody in all of Europe. No dancer that there is or was is ever going to be able to pull me down. I don’t want you against me, Julie Anna.” Anastacia Klein said standing next to her brother Dragan.

Julie Anna opened a binder on her desk, “I’m not against you Anastacia. I want you to realize what you’re getting into.” She picked up a pen and began to write something on one of her many charts.

“Alright, but you sure seem perfectly happy to condemn me for believing I can do it.” Anastacia replied.

“Tell Jolene then see what she does.” Julie Anna said, “I’ve got some work to do. Just keep that big head of yours down so you don’t hit your head off the door.”

“Well let’s see what London thinks of me tomorrow. Let the public call it!“ Anastaica said enraged stormed out of the room.

Dragan spoke, “Sorry, Julie Anna, Anna doesn’t take criticism well.”

“So I’ve noticed.” Julie Anna said as she flipped a page in her notebook. “She’s always been that prideful, I take it.”

“Sorta,” Dragan said, “People tell her no, you can’t she questions all limits and boundaries.”

Julie Anna Mc Cowl frowned and she bit on the cap of her pen, “That’s not something she should be proud of, and yet she is. That is going to get her in some trouble with Vanessa. Nessa‘s the same exact way.”

“But that ability has gotten her here thus far, hasn’t it?” Dragan questioned the tragically beautiful woman in front of him. Julie Anna Mc Cowl had become a tragic beauty in her years in the World Dance Academy. Her eyes no longer glimmered, she had turned cold and bitter. She looked as though she belonged in a depressing painting. A woman trapped by a stereotype, Julie Anna was looked at as a know it all stuck up bitch. No matter what she tried that was how it was going to be for the rest of her life. And for her knowing that Anastacia was trying to change her standings and more than likely going to succeed; made Julie Anna Mc Cowl sick to her stomach.

Julie Anna pondered Dragan’s comment then flicked her brown hair glaring, “ Yeah but this ain’t no Junior Tour. She’s at the big time now.” A silence followed and Julie Anna continued to write in cold silence.

“Well, see you at company practice tonight.” Dragan said on his way out.

“Bye.” Julie Anna said curtly.

Connor Finnegan walked in to the room looking at two of his teammates. Davina O’ Conor lay sound asleep under a Irish quilt and Alana Moran sat there staring out the window.

“Hey, Alana.” Connor said as he sat opposite of her. “How long has O’ Conor been sleeping?”

Alana shrugged, “An hour or so?”

“Are you thinking about Bryan?” Connor asked practically reading Alana’s face. Connor had the ability to see a story in everyone’s face. Alana’s pale porcelain skin was etched with pain in it. Her dark green eyes bore a sense of great trouble with in. Her long purple maroon hair was tied back with her scrunchy careless thrown in. Connor knew Bryan was going to be the destruction of Alana but no matter how much he told her this, she wouldn’t listen to him.

Alana smiled, “yeah, Con, I don’t get him. He thinks I’m wasting my life in the World Dance Academy.”

Connor smiled, “Tell him how much you make and that will shut him up. And if Bryan starts bashing on me, tell him you called his boyfriend gay and his boyfriend hit you with Byran’s purse.”

Alana smiled, “You are so cruel Connor.”

“It’s so funny though.” Connor said leaning over the back of his chair. He spotted a tall blonde girl striding into the entrance hallway from outside. “Oi! Halle!”

Halle Thomlin stopped and looked into the Central Common room where some of Ireland‘s best dancers sat and in Davina‘s case, slept. “You’re gonna wake up Davina.”

“Too late, already up. Can’t sleep through the baboon’s mating call.” Davina O’Conor said sitting up, “What’s up my Danish chickadee?” she replied groggily. Davina was unique in the aspect she had the long hair with a gentle curl. Her lime green eyes shimmered and had a certain flame to them. A challenging flame; one that said: back off I’ll take on. Headstrong to take on anyone. She had a lean body that backed up the threat in her eyes.

“Not much practice is a real kick in the ass.” Halle said sitting down and setting her duffle bag beside her.

“That bad with the new coaching staff?” Alana asked.

Halle’s eyes widened, “Yeah it’s that bad!”

“That shouldn’t have happened Julie Anna can’t pick new really tough coaches when you’ve had a weak staff thus far.” Davina said as she started to braid her hair.

“Oh yes she can.” Halle said, “She already has done it.”

“Sucks to be you.” Connor said, “If you want I can fix it.”

Davina rolled her eyes, “Do you have to flirt with everything that has a vagina?”

Halle and Alana howled with laughter as Connor shut his mouth.

“Partner up ladies.” Coach Brad Petterson said as the women began to partnered up.

“Faylinn?” Jolene Smith asked.

Faylinn Malloy smiled, “Sure Jolene.” The two began the traditional stretches. Then Faylinn said, “Hey, Jolene, when is that dinner party for Steven?”

“Well sometime after Leah’s wedding, so early September?” Jolene said arching backwards.

“That sounds good, but do you want me to bring something for it?” Faylinn asked.

Jolene came up, “No Steven’s mother is making a bouillabaisse that is to die for.”

“I love bouillabaisse! I have it all the time in Nice when I’m down there with Lance and Drew.” Faylinn replied.

“What an intriguing conversation ladies.” Coach Brad Petterson said as he knelt down next to Faylinn. “But not for dance.”

“Really?” Faylinn said, “I believe flirting is off limits too, but that doesn’t seem to stop you.”

“Fay.” Jolene said warningly.

Coach Petterson said, “Fay, you’re married I can’t touch you. Unless I’d love to have Lance all over me.”

“Not you’re best choice, huh?” Faylinn said, “But that doesn’t seem to stop you any.”

Jolene said, “Fay, just drop it. Sorry Coach, we’ll get back to work.” She began to lay back pulling Faylinn with her. Then after Brad had left she whispered, “Fay quit it you’ll get thrown off, especially if you’re a temporary dancer.”

“You wouldn’t let it happen, Jo Jo. You’d fight for me.” Faylinn said as she pulled Jolene back up.

Paris, France

There she sat pretty as any painting. Her blonde hair undulated in the summer breeze. Her eyes covered by black sunglasses and her face with a look of complacency on it. Her soft blue silk blouse fluttered and she sat perfectly at a table enjoying life.

“Bonjour, Brigette.” Jacque said sitting down next to his wife. She was predictably at her favorite spot, the local café.

“Ca va?” Brigette Du Bois said pulling out a chair for her husband.

“Alright, tu, ma amiee?”

“I’m so stressed. Julie Anna is so annoying, she thinks she’s all that and she isn’t! Je deteste elle!” Brigette said as she set her glass of l’eau de frambois on the table.

Jacque said, “ma petite chou, relax, besides you will have to see Julie Anna tonight at company practice. Speaking of which, shouldn’t you be catching the metro to leave?”

“Should, but to make Julie Anna angrier I’m going to be a few minutes late. Besides I wish to enjoy my l’eau de frambois.” Jacque shook his head smiling at his wife. Then the waiter came and took Jacque’s order and he waited.

“ Brigette, I don’t think that this is a good idea. Julie Anna already dislikes you very much and you’re only fueling the fire.”

“Yes, but Julie Anna hates a lot of people. I’m just top of the list along with Vanessa, but everyone is somewhat against Vanessa.”

“Vanessa Oblinger? Pourqui? She seems so nice.” Jacque said surprised.

“Vanessa stirs things up way too much.” Brigette said as she pulled her blonde hair back into a twist. Clipping it into place she said, “I like her well enough except when that boche of hers gets going.” Jacque chuckled appreciatively. “Well, Jacque, I must go or Jo Jo will be after me as well.”

“Au revoir, ma petite chou.” Jacque said kissing his wife’s cheek and caressing her blonde locks that were already falling out of her clip.

Practice Stage

“What do you mean that Stephen can’t come!” Kalona Bayer exclaimed. She sat down in the theater seat, “Annalise, please tell me you’re lying to me.”

Annalise Moore sighed, “I wish I was, Kalona. I guess we run through it with you watching all of us.”

Kalona said, “Well that’d be great except for the team dance. I guess we will practice that after the company practice I’ll ask Nadie to stay for us.”

“Sounds like a plan to me.” Annalise said smiling. “Now, I must go get dressed.”

Kalona sighed, “Yes go do that and please tell Farica I would like to see her routine first.” Kalona collapsed into the theater seat.

“Yes, Kalona.” Annalise said as she headed back stage.

“Dear Lord above, this is going to be quite a day, give me some patience.” Kalona sighed as she untied her brown tresses from their braided bun. “Let’s just get Farica out of my way first.” She ran fingers through her hair as she massaged her scalp. Backstage Annalise was keeping to her promise.

“HEY FARICA!” Annalise shouted.

“What?” replied the agitated voice of Farica Zuk.

“Kalona wants to see you’re routine first. The coaches aren’t here today.” Annalise replied.

“Great! Hey why aren’t the coaches here?” Farica asked angrily.

Annalise shouted back, “Don’t know why, just know what I’m told.”

“Alright, thank you Anna.” Farica said as she examined herself in the mirror. She figured she’d have to go first. The coaches were very impressed with her and liked to start dress rehearsal off with a bang. But she knew Kalona was different. Kalona was probably so stressed she’d want to get her anger out on Farica first. Especially since she wasn’t such a strong supporter of her. Even more so when it came to Lyrical ballet. Farica sat down and put on her small lyrical sandals. She stood up and glanced once more into the mirror. She saw a short 26 year old German with long straight brown hair reflecting back at her. Her big brown eyes glittered under tons of glittery makeup. “It’s now or never to prove myself to Kalona.” She sighed as she left and prepared to take the stage. Her soft pink pants and tunic fluttered in the wind as she strode off into the wings of the stage.

Kalona sat awaiting Farica. Kalona has posed her clipboard on her leg which was propped against the seat in front of her. She knew that Farica was selected for Jazz which meant her lyrical skills weren’t the best but Farica’s skills were flagrantly bad. Kalona never understood why she was so determined to perform lyrical. Farica added too much jazz and not enough ballet. She didn’t tell a story and or emotions with her lyrical. Farica stepped on stage and Kalona closed her eyes and drew a deep breath.

Dormitories, South wing

The sunlight flittered across the bed of Italian captain, Aria Miller. Aria was perched over a letter as her black curls fell down in her face and she sucked on the pen as she read over her letter.

Dear Lacy,

The WDA practices are underway, I am beyond exhausted and when I sleep all I see is you. Please let it be that you will come to the performance back in Italia. I miss you so much and it’s so difficult to hear the younger ones talk of their beaus. They wouldn’t understand, but I know you would. I close my eyes and all I see is you. In my dreams I couldn’t love you more. Always thinking of you my love. Miss you and please write back soon.

Love, Aria

“Done!” Aria Miller said as she folded up her letter to her lover back in Italy. “They wouldn’t understand.” She sighed aloud.

“Wouldn’t understand what?” Julie Anna Mc Cowl said as she entered.

Aria protested, “Ever hear of knocking Julie?”

“Oh that’s that thing I’m suppose to do to warn you I’m coming. Where’s the fun in that?” Julie Anna said as she took a seat.

“So what brings you to the Italia capital of the dormitories?” Aria asked as she sat up.

Julie Anna smiled, “How would you like to welcome our new dancer, Anastacia and totally embarrass Jo Jo the ho in the process?”

“I’m listening.” Aria said as stared into Julie Anna’s eyes.

“Well this is how it’s gonna work.” Julie Anna said as she whispered the plan into her ear.

“JULIE ANNA!” A male voice shouted.

“WHAT!?” Julie Anna screamed back.

“HALLE IS LOOKING FOR YOU! AND SO IS MALLORY!”

“God damn it!” Julie Anna cussed as she got up, “But is that understood, Aria?”

“Crystal clear.” Aria said as she smiled waiting for the company practice to go on. Aria addressed the letter and sealed it shut promising herself she’d mail it later.

Coach’s offices.

“Hello, Mallory, what can I do for you.” Julie Anna said sitting behind her desk after shaking hands with the older dancer. Mallory had a look that showed she was here for business only.

“Well, what’s going on with the company? Rumors say Denmark is loosing some people… and let’s face it, I’m the coach of the Denmark junior tour. I want my girls on that team.” Mallory said looking at Julie Anna.

“Well, you know I prefer Junior Tour dancers, but number one the quality isn’t that great. You told me Halle would be a fantastic addition to Denmark the last time. She hasn’t contributed to anything yet, as far as I can see. If anything, I believe that she is using the publicity to springboard her singing career. Number two, after Anastacia’s brazen outburst of disrespect and her rude accusations that I am pulling her down…. it would seem like you all make these girls believe that they are phenomenal!” Julie Anna said folding her hands calmly.

“WHAT!?” Mallory shouted. “Anastacia is phenomenal! Unless you’d like to argue that’s she’s not the world’s greatest with 9 consecutive gold medals, the most in WDA history.”

“I know, Mallory, but she’s got an attitude I don’t like. It‘s that she doesn‘t know how to say things. She‘s explicitly rude” Julie Anna said.

Mallory glared at her, “Maybe the reason you don’t like it is because you’re afraid she’s gonna question you, going to challenge everything she does that she won’t submit herself to you like everyone else does. Or just maybe it’s the fact she’s just like you.”

Julie Anna laughed, “That girl is in no way like me what-so-ever!”

“ Wanna bet? You never took no for an answer if they said jump you said how high and went past it. I think you’re bitter because you’ve been labeled and can’t change it. And Anastacia is about to change you’re opinion about her too. Besides, Serge seems to agree with me. You wouldn’t want to go against Serge.” Mallory taunted.

“Mallory Walshington!” Julie Anna yelled. “Do you want to get me fired?”

“Sure, it’s more fun than being bitched at every time I come in here.”

Julie Anna sat there and resumed her calm status, “ You think you’re something Miss Mallory Walshington, don’t you? Well whatever you want, I will consider Brookie and get back to you. Just as a notice, I haven’t received any letters of resignation yet.”

“Whatever, you liar. I know some people have told me themselves they‘ve submitted their letters already.” Mallory said as she got up and stormed out of the room. “HALLE!” She said flipping her outward appearance just like a coin.

“Hi, Coach Mallory. How are you?” Halle responded her blue eyes showing signs of her crying recently.

“Better than you look kiddo.” Mallory said wrapping an arm around Halle. “You heard, Julie Anna didn’t you?”

Halle nodded, “How can she say that about me, you know I’m one of the better pointe dancers on this team.”

“I know that, but, stupid is forever, ignorance, however, can be fixed.” Mallory said and then muttered under her breath, “Stupid Bitch.”

“Mallory!” Halle hissed, “Not nice. So what’s bringing you up to the Adult Tour building?”

Mallory smiled at her 25 year old former student dancer. Her long blonde hair shone as bright as ever. Her brilliant blue eyes glittered with tears held back and her voice soft as an angel sighing. “Well, Halle, I’m trying to get Brookie on the Adult Tour. I know someone or ones have resigned and I wanna get her onto Denmark if at all possible. Julie Anna says no one has resigned as of yet.”

“That’s bullshit.” Halle said angrily.

“Tell me about it, Hale. She’s one of the names that people say are leaving. Let’s hope. Well have fun tonight and keep and eye on Stacia. I think Julie Anna is up to something, I just don‘t know what.”

“Will do.” Halle said as she walked in the direction of the central commons.

Central Commons

“Nadie?” 25 year old Serge Yagudin called out into the central commons.

“Over here Serge.” Nadie Yagudin called back.

“What’s going on you don’t look so perky.” Serge said sitting at the end of the sofa Nadie was laying on. Nadie lay with her hair down and frizzy. She wore her large tee shirt and baggy sweatpants. But to Serge, nothing in the world looked more beautiful.

“Sick, I think it’s from little Tati.” Nadie said patting her stomach.

“Did you tell Jolene yet?” Serge said smiling at his wife.

Nadie smirked, “What do you think?”

“Not at all!” Serge responded.

“Exactly and I have no intention of telling her.” Nadie said as she stood up, “Well I better go rest on a proper bed.”

“Yes, I think that would be best, my love. May the stars shine as you sleep may the divine protect ye as ye sleep.” Serge said as he always did before Nadie went to bed.

“Thanks you good night Serge.” Nadie said as she left. “Hello there Halle.”

“Hello and I guess from the looks of it goodnight Nadie.” Halle said as she entered the commons.

“Hello Halle.” Serge said as he watched that Nadie was out of sight.

Halle innocently asked, “What’s wrong with Nadie?”

“She’s not feeling well at all.” Serge said as he pulled Halle down on to his lap.

“Serge, you’re wife is hardly gone and the first thing you want to do is flirt.” Halle said smiling.

“Well when the girl is as hot as you Halle, it’s kinda hard to hold myself to my normally high standards.”

Halle rolled her eyes, “You’re too much Serge.”

“I know, so what’s up with you my Danish Princess? You look ready to cry!”

Halle angrily spat out, “I just hate Julie Anna! She’s so annoying! She thinks I’m in the WDA to publicize my singing career. She thinks I contribute nothing to the Denmark Adult Tour.”

“You know that isn’t true, Halle. You’re an amazing dancer! Just remember happy is when all of your dreams come true.” Serge said as he began to kiss Halle’s neck.

“Awh, you know how much I hate when you do that Serge.”

Serge slyly replied, “I know and that’s what makes it all the better.”

English Dance Studio

“Hey, Nessa, what’s Julie’s problem with me?” Anastacia asked as she stormed into the prep room.

Vanessa Oblinger looked up from putting on her pointe shoe, “What do you mean Stacia?”

“She thinks my ego is bigger than my head and thinks I’m having “delusions of grandeur!” Is that true?” Anastacia asked as she began to braid her waist long brown hair. Her blue eyes held back tears.

“Stacia, you have every right to be egotistical! You’re the one they call “The World’s Greatest” You’re expecting to be just as influential here as you were on the Bulgaria Junior Tour. And I think you will do fantastic.”

“Really?” Anastacia asked as she wiped a small tear from the corner of her eye.

“Yeah it’s just Julie’s personality she’s always been a cocky egotistical bitch.” Vanessa said as she tied up her brown hair. “Remember Stacia, Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much. So ready to show the world what you’re all about now that you’re an adult on the Adult Tour?”

The 22 year old looked up at her captain, “Yeah Vanessa, I think I am.” The two women waited for Dragan.

“Sorry, I was talking to Aubrianna.” Dragan said as he pulled his black pointe shoes out.

“No problem Dragan,” Vanessa said, “We’re just complaining about Julie Anna.”

Dragan began to tie his right shoe, “She thinks she’s something else doesn’t she?”

“She thinks she gets to have everything because she had a hard life. Her life wasn’t even all that bad. She lost a mother at a young age and her father was never around. My parents didn’t give a damn either, cause if they did I wouldn’t have done so many drugs that I couldn’t produce children!” Vanessa snapped..

“You can’t have any children of your own, but what about Jen and Maria?” Anastacia asked.

“Adopted. Michael and I adopted them when they were only 14.” Vanessa said as she stood up and alternated her point between her two feet.

“Awh, I’m sorry.” Dragan said as he knotted his second shoe.

“Not your fault, it was mine. I was so into drugs when I was younger than you guys.” Vanessa said as she balanced on one foot.

“That’s depressing though.” Anastacia said.

“Yeah well she thinks she had it tough. Faylinn married an ass who doesn’t love her and sleeps around with anything that isn’t her. Nadie is married to a cheater too. Serge is totally after Halle. Esmeralda’s parents almost sold her into child pornography because they couldn’t afford the baby they were about to have.”

“Yeah and she’s upset because she was somewhat “parentless?” Give me a freaking break.” Annastacia said as she twirled around on toe.

“Yeah well, that’s Jules for ya!” Vanessa said, “Now it’s time to see what the world is going to see from the two of you tomorrow night.” Vanessa said unlocking the studio door.

Dormitories, South Wing

“So Gabby,” Esmeralda Sanchez said as she set her book down, “What’s up with you and Serge?”

Gabriella Rivera sat up from her stretch and gasped, “What have you heard?”

“Ooh someone did something that she wasn’t suppose to!” Raina Lopez said as she leaned back in her chair.

“Raina! Shut it.” Gabriella said as she flicked her dark brown hair behind her shoulder.

“Gabby, he’s married. What are you doing flirting with a married man. Nadie is going to have a fit if she finds out.”

“If… that is the key word, Ezzie. I don’t really know why I’m chasing after him. He’s just makes me feel something special. I’ve never felt that special with Adan.”

“ Gabby, Serge is dangerous. You know that, don’t you?” Raina asked.

Gabriella closed her eyes, “My mind tells me that he is dangerous but my heart is after that happy ending and I know with him a feel different I feel loved.”

“Gabby.” Esmeralda said softly, “How can he love both you and Nadie?”

Gabriella shrugged, “I don’t know how, but I feel something special, a connection and a bond. Maybe he wasn’t suppose to be with Nadie.”

“You had sex with him didn’t you.” Raina said sighing as she picked up a notebook.

Esmeralda shrieked, “Gabbers have sex with Serge!? Are you out of your mind Raina?”

“I don’t hear Gabriella protesting.” She smirked.

Gabriella closed her eyes and sighed, “I did, I’ll admit it, I had sex with him.”

“Gabbers!” Esmeralda bickered, “Gabby, Gabby, why? What compelled you to have sex with a married man?”

“Ezzie, I don’t know and that’s what scares me.” Gabriella said her brown eyes swelling with tears, “But I feel so special with him. He makes me feel as though I belong here, that I have a reason to live life.”

“Gabby, it’s so dangerous to be sleeping with co-workers. Especially when you work with their wife!” Raina said trying to talk logic into Gabriella.

“Seriously where did all my logic go?” Gabriella asked as she lay down and the other women followed suite. Dark brown locks mixed with burgundy red locks and black tendrils.

“Out the window with love.” Raina said, “Now we have to get it back.”

Company Practice: Globe Theater

Coach De Witt strode across the stage. She looked out at the dancers of the Europe WDA. She could see the divisions, but it didn’t matter, they were a team and were going to work as one. “Well, hello everyone, I’m Brandy De Witt. I’m head coach for the Europe team. I know and can see already you are a divided team. That’s gonna change really soon. Can I have the captains join me on stage. Okay I need names too.”

“Julie Anna Mc Cowl.” Julie Anna said as she stepped onto the stage in a red bra top with black shorts and red argyle leg warmers over her pointe shoes. She had her hair in two small pigtails.

“ Kalona Bayer.” The next captain said from the right. She had a solid black unitard with her long hair up in a bun on top of her head. She too wore her pointe shoes.

“Vanessa Oblinger.” the 29 year old said as she wore a blue leotard with a short white skirt her hair flowed down naturally. Then keeping the tradition she had pointe shoes on too.

“So they hand me a ton of pointe dancers!” Brandy chuckled out loud.

“Yeah kinda except for me, Davina O’ Conor, Jazz.” Davina state as she had long black jazz pants on over her jazz sneakers and she wore a green tank top. Her brown hair pulled into a high pony tail.

“Don’t forget me O’ Conor.” Gabriella said as she stepped into the light with her black shorts and yellow tank top. “Gabriella Rivera .”

“Okay okay, you can’t please everyone!” Nadie said as she climbed the steps, “Nadie Yagudin, Russia.” She had her pink Prima ballerina outfit on with her pointe shoes.

“Aria Miller, Italy.” Aria said as she came on stage in her long black yoga sweats and a blue bra top. “Ballet, flat foot.” Brandy nodded as she wrote something down in her note book.

“Brigette Du Bois.” The French captain said as she removed her zipped jacket. Underneath there was a red tank top and a black skort. Her blonde frizzy hair was up in a floppy bun. Her pointe shoes were hanging over her shoulder.

“Thanks, well it’s an honor to be here tonight.” Brandy said as she got off stage. “Bring it ladies and gents!”

Backstage

“Julie Anna ready for Jo Jo to throw the hugest tantrum?” Aria asked.

“Of course did you stick to the plan?” Julie Anna asked.

Aria looked at her, “Of course, do you really have to ask?”

“Nice, HEY! Anastacia!” Julie Anna called out.

“Hey Julie Anna.” Anastacia said leery as she flexed at the prep barre with a look of discontent on her face.

Julie Anna said, “You know I’ve been thinking and I was totally out of place today when I accused you of having a swollen head. You’re a great dancer. I should have had more faith in you.”

“Well, thanks, I guess, that means a lot to me.” Anastaicia said as she went on toe with a grimace on her face, “I hate new shoes.”

“Well, break a leg.” Julie Anna said as Anastacia turned to go perform for Brandy.

“Thanks, you too.” Anastacia said as she walked away.

Julie Anna said under her breath, “literally my dear.”

In the wings Vanessa was making a last minute check of Anastacia’s costume, “Feels good?”

“Yeah, but the shoes seemed more cramped than I remember them.” Anastacia said.

Vanessa shrugged, “You haven’t worn these new ones too much yet, they’re going to feel tight for a performance or two.”

“Nessa, not like that….” Anastacia started.

“GO! Before the music starts!” Vanessa said pushing Anastacia out onto the stage.

this isn’t going to be good…. Anastacia thought as she started her routine. She stayed flat for a little bit. The chorus came and Anastacia was near the front of the stage. She attempted to go up on toe when the shoe snapped and she went flying forward. There was a sickening crunch heard over the music.

“These aren’t her shoes I know they’re not!” Brandy said examining Anastacia. “Anna, what happened?”

“They snapped on me. I guess my feet are too big.” Anastacia replied.

Brandy said, “There is only one person on this whole tour who has smaller feet than you do….”

“Jolene.” Vanessa and Anastacia said at the same time.

“ANASTACIA!” A voice screamed from backstage. “YOU LITTLE BITCH!”

“Jolene, out here!” Aubrianna called, “Somehow your shoes got switched.”

“JULIE ANNA!” Jolene screamed, “You’re so low, take out the “World’s Greatest” so you don’t have any jazz competition. Sorry hon., a donkey in jazz shoes could beat you!”

“You whore! You don’t have any evidence to prove I did it!”

“Oh, I’ll find some Julie Anna.”

“Ladies, ladies!” Brandy said trying to calm everyone down but it wasn’t about to work.

“Not before I find out you sabotaged Anna.” Julie Anna said, “And You know how good I am at it. Besides I apologized to Anna right before she went on, why would I have sabotaged someone who I was going to apologize to?”

“Because it’s you Jewels! You’d concoct something like this to stir trouble.” Jolene said angrily.

“It doesn’t really matter right now, Annastacia has to go the hospital. I want it checked out.” Vanessa snapped as she got Dragan to carry his sister out to her car.

East Wing Commons

“Vanessa, why does Julie Anna hate me so much?” Anastacia asked looking
down at her broken ankle.

“I don’t know, I guess she’s jealous of you. And, or, she wanted to set you up to get Jo Jo mad. It worked either way.” Vanessa said looking at Stacia’s broken leg.

Anastacia replied, “But what did I ever do to her?”

“Nothing except she thinks you’re very cocky and self centered.” Vanessa said as she pulled Anastacia’s hair back. “It’s more the fact you exist.”

“So my existence is what makes Julie boil. Good to know!” Anastacia said as she stood up and grabbed her crutches and began to hobble off to her bedroom for the night.

“Vanessa, why does Julie Anna hate me so much?” Anastacia asked looking down at her broken ankle.“I don’t know, I guess she’s jealous of you. And, or, she wanted to set you up to get Jo Jo mad. It worked either way.” Vanessa said looking at Stacia’s broken replied, “But what did I ever do to her?”“Nothing except she thinks you’re very cocky and self centered.” Vanessa said as she pulled Anastacia’s hair back. “It’s more the fact you exist.”

“Don’t worry about Anna, she’s gonna be alright.” Dragan said, “Besides she needed to learn not to mess with Julie Anna.”

“Yeah, but Dragan, the doctors said it was a bad injury. This could affect Annastacia’s career for the rest of her life. She might not be able to dance after that kinda injury.”

Dragan looked at Vanessa, “Vanessa, the word “not” doesn’t exist in Anna’s vocab. She will live or die trying that’s just who she is.”

“I wanna believe that, but sometimes even the stars refuse to shine.” Vanessa sighed as she sunk into the bay window seat.

Dragan sat next to her, “Believe me, it’s Anna, we’ve got that whole ESP thingy with each other. I know her like I’ve never known anyone else in my life.”

“Alright, I believe you.” Vanessa said as she leaned back against the wall.

“Good, because this time for once in my life I’m right and I’m confident in it.” Dragan said.

“But she should never stop questioning Julie Anna. Julie needs a lesson to be taught to her. And Anna is the one to do it.”

“Well goodnight, my love.” Nadie said as she walked off leaving Serge to nurse his thoughts.

“Night Nadie.” He said as he stared out of the window. Halle, Gabriella, and Julie Anna were on his mind. Halle was youthful, exuberant and all too willing to please. But Gabriella had the maturity and experience and she knew how to please all too well. And Julie Anna gave him a sense of power and control.

“Serge?” Aria said stepping into the dimly lit room.

“Aria, what can I do for you tonight?” Serge said turning and staring at the Italian Captain.

Aria said, “I need someone to talk to.”

“I’m all ears.” Serge said as he folded his hands into his lap.

Aria sighed, “Well it’s just getting to be too hard to keep something inside. I don’t even know if I should bring it up at all with my team.”

“What is it?” Serge asked calmly.

“I’m a lesbian.” Aria said.

Serge’s eyes did a double take, “you’re a homosexual woman?”

Aria nodded, “yeah, and I miss her tonight.”

“So what’s her name?” Serge asked.

“Lacy.” Aria said and she continued through out the night and Serge patiently listened. “Thanks for listening Serge, I feel like I owe you something, what would you like?”

“Nothing really.” Serge said lying through his teeth.

“You want either Halle or Gabriella, don’t you or Julie Anna.” Aria said knowing him too well.

Serge’s mouth dropped, “How did you know?”

“Just did.” Aria said.

“Yeah Halle has so much self worth that I wish she didn’t.”

“You wanna screw her don’t you?”

“In a word yeah.” Serge said gritting his teeth, “But she’s so stubborn.”

“Stubborn? Who?” Brigette said entering the commons, “I didn’t think anyone would still be up. It’s 3:30 in the morning you two. If I were Nadie I’d be worried about my husband.”

“Shove it up your ass, Du Bois.” Aria said, “I was just discussing classified information with Serge.”

“About you being a lesbian, yeah heard it already.” Brigette said.

“How?” Aria asked bewildered.

“let’s just say Julie Anna can’t hold her liquors.” Brigette said smirking.

Aria stormed off bickering something under her breath.

After she left Serge said, “You didn’t know, did you Brigette?”

Brigette smiled broadly, “Not at all. I assumed and was right!”
