A/N: This poem was inspired by a scene in "Dead Poets Society".

My True Self

As I lose the binds that hold me

I feel a liberating sense

Of finally finding me.

I dare to speak my mind,

To show my deepest thoughts,

But only in that time of need.

When that time of need has passed

I fade away

To being a nobody,

The one They make fun of.

But once the true me rears her head again

They will stand in awe

And They will think

“Who is that girl?”

But when that moment passes

My true self shrinks back once more,

And leaves me to myself.
