Ventriloquist 03-26-05

I can’t help biting symphonies
The bitter shards on my tongue
You spoon-feed me a melody
Untruthful notes I’m to process
I can’t help bleeding harmonies
As it escapes red from my neck
You beat your half-notes whole
Until I’m deaf from your screaming
Off-key

Can you hear my shattered breathing
Ragged with the holes you’ve torn?
Serpent jaw snapped back over
Carry a tune, carry a tune
It sings from a mouth ripped wide
One hand on each lip
Torn apart like wrapping paper

I hate you so much I love you
And I hate you so much more
I don’t know what I’m singing
When you dictate my vocal chords
I’m hanging on to a measure hiding
In the lyrics of your song, but I can’t
Let go of you when my heart
Is speared by your ticking metronome
