I am a crisp fall breeze carrying the faint scent of oranges

and apple pie

rustling up the leaves that have formed their opinions

crushing their simplicity into shards of indecisive questioning

I am a button

fallen from it's sleeve

a strand of hair woven into a birds nest

I am a piece of yellow tissue paper

crumpled

and frayed around the edges

torn beyond repair

by a unintentional brush of the hand

cut and taped

cut and taped

at what point must it be thrown away?

Replaced with something stronger

I am a caterpillar who will never become a butterfly

a delicate tea cup

overflowing with acid

I am a kite

painting the sky a rainbow of colors

joyously prancing through the thundering night

so exuberant

so wild

so free

overcoming the expected

I am a dreamer

the black sheep

one of the wild things

a scribble on a wall

the only animal on the ark

who didn't come as a pair
