Chrysalis

Safe inside you watch and wait

The flowers bloom around you

The budding petals you so hate

Shake off jaded morning dew

While you observe their petty flight

Your tyrant fears have bound you

But good things come to those who wait

And still you pupa holds you

Hum sweet, soft, sinful, through the breeze

And echo through the tombstones

Of butterflies who flew away

And jealousy befouled them

It's not just their saddened, broken bones

Which stare so mockingly at you

It's the glistening pleas of tattered hope

Calling "Run from what awaits you"

You'd never think to shy away

Would be the action to befit you

Yet in your chrysalis you stay

From fear of what could find you
