“Unconditional”
…
Haunted by mem’ries
Forgotten
Followed by spirits
Impatient
Walking in shadows
Unyielding
Tortured by failures
Unspoken
Fearing the sunlight
Revealing
Filled up with sadness
Consuming
Burning with longing
Impassioned
Appealing to darkness
Rejected
Broken by conscience
Condemning
Weeping for the past
Remorseful
Groping for comfort
Relieving
Clinging to mercy
Unfailing
Forgiven through love
Unconditional
…
Author’s Note: This is the most abstract piece I have ever written, bar none. It has absolutely no rhyming, are you not proud of me? In case you missed it, this is sort of about the cycle of sin and forgiveness. I was hoping the end would subtly suggest that to you. The structure is really something that I made up, although I stake no claim to its creation because I do not know if it has been used before, which it probably has. But the italicized words are meant to sort of summarize the preceding statement, or cast a different light on it. Take from it what you will. By the way, if “unconditional” seems to not fit in with the flow, that would be because it isn’t supposed to, I wanted it to stand out from the rest of the poem. Reviews are very much appreciated.
