Prologue:
The city lights of Manhattan flashed brightly as she ran throughout the streets wearing a light tan suit and carrying a medium sized black bag. She glanced at her watch briefly as she waited at the crosswalk impatiently. From where he stood the young man saw as she paused in the middle of the street as the light changed to “walk”, glancing in her bag but dropping it suddenly as the lights changed once again. Without a moments hesitation he ran to the center of the street and rescued her from the oncoming car. He leapt and caught her around the waist and they landed back on the other side of the street. As her eyes opened and a small crowd gathered to see what was going on she looked up and saw his soft brown eyes staring back at her.
“Are you all right miss?” he asked her in a foreign accent.
She nodded not really sure how to react. He simply smiled and helped her to her feet as the crowd dispersed.
“Just be more careful next time” he replied as he handed her the black bag and then added, “Whatever you were in such a hurry for couldn’t have been worth dying” he smiled again and then walked away.
She watched him leaved stunned and then realized at last that the strange young man had saved her life, but not realizing that it would not be the last time that she would see him.
