Whee, I wrote another story! (dances) Hehe, to think that I wasn’t even thinking of writing this until right before I started, when I suddenly thought of the night sky and a Dragon! :D

Hopefully you’d like it though, it’s been a loooong while since I wrote without thinking much of the storyline! Enjoy reading it! :D

Dedicated to all Dragon lovers… and that includes you, Jake-kun! :P

The summary for “Tears of the Dragon”:
The night is cooling, the stars are twinkling, the wind blows gently in the night sky, and all is silent… the city is sleeping, as it does every night. As she lies in bed, awake long after midnight, the visitor comes to see her one last time… --COMPLETE--

Tears of the Dragon

By Blue Dragon-sy

-

The night sky was cooling, the gentle breeze waving through the pale blue curtains. The stars twinkled lightly, and a shooting star created a brief streak of light in the sky, granting wishes to all who prayed to it. Twelve loud, echoing chimes came from the middle of the city as the old clock tower that had been there for centuries announced the hour. But after that, all was silent. The city was sleeping, as it did every night.

The pale blue curtains danced lightly in the moonlight, to the silent rhythm of the night, as well as reaching out to touch the edge of my bed, where I lay awake long after the chimes of the clock tower had ended. Perhaps the Spirits of the Night forgot to cast a sleep spell on me, or perhaps the Moon was too busy to sing her lullaby to me, but there I lay, not the least bit sleepy, somewhere in the silent, sleeping city.

I wasn’t aware of how long I remained that way, but soon the sound of flapping wings brought me to back to reality from my sea of thoughts. The sound was not like the light sound that the birds made when they fly, but rather like a heavy whoosh made by the wings of a heavy creature, one that I had heard only from that contraption they call television.

The sound soon faded away and came back again as loudly as it had been before. Once. Twice. Thrice. Then a loud thud on the rooftop balcony.

What in heaven’s name was that?

As quietly as I could, I put on something more suitable than my nightdress and slipped into the darkness of the mansion, like a mouse coming out of its hole quietly. Sneaking around, like an assassin with a murder plan in mind. Only that I wasn’t an expert, without the proper training to do so, but I still made it through the halls and to the top of the winding staircase without waking anyone up. Perhaps a congratulatory statement should be in order.

The breeze tried to throw me back as I pushed the door open, a creak tearing the silence apart. The view was familiar to me, but it still took a moment to fully comprehend the sight. As I looked forward, something gleaming in the moonlight turned back at me.

First thing that came to my mind was the pair of bluest eyes I had ever seen, glowing dimly like the Moon. Then the silver colour, more brilliant than that of a silver necklace, or even the gleam of an uncut diamond. Last was the shape, belonging to a creature that never existed, but not unknown in this world – a Dragon.

It stood on its hind legs, its front ones propped against the edge of the balcony, while its leathery bat wings spread in an embrace to the wind. But yet, those blue eyes still looked at me, with innocence that seemed to defy its lizard-like features, and with a colour that drew me into its world. This was a Dragon, a creature that only existed in minds of many, yet a creature I loved, so much more than any other.

I slowly approached it, one step at a time, the wind blowing my long, dark hair back. It did not react much to it, but just continued to stare at me with those eyes, now with a hint of sadness.

Where have I seen those eyes before…?

My hand touched the end of the Dragon’s snout, and I felt marvelled at the scales, almost as soft as fur yet almost as hard as metal, rather warm unlike the coldness of a reptile’s scales. But I never took my eyes off its own, for I was now lost among the story the eyes were telling me. The story of its sadness…

…You’re sad… aren’t you…?

It was as though the Dragon was able to hear my thoughts, for it then brought its wings around me, now embracing me instead of the wind. A strange of feeling of sadness and remorse took over me as I wrapped my arms around its head lightly, and tears streamed down my cheeks as I held it, utmost sadness tearing me from inside.

Then a large warm drop of water slid down to mix with my own, and more came, forming a stream of them on the scales. I looked up once more into the blue eyes, and realised.

Those were tears.

Tears of the Dragon.

Tears belonging to him…

The Silver Dragon backed slowly away, its eyes still on me, and then spread its wings to the air once again. With two powerful flaps, the wings lifted it easily from the floor as though he was made of paper, and with one final tear, it gracefully flew away, into the dark summer night sky.

I fell to my knees, tears still sliding down my cheeks and soaking my shirt, and continued to sob. Only later did I realise that I was holding a silver scale in my hand, with the same brilliant glow as the Dragon’s…

Kris… my dearest Kris…

I clutched it to my chest, held it there for a while, then lifted my head towards the sky and smiled.

I’m so glad I could see you one more time…

As I closed my eyes, once again the wind blew, once again it played with my hair. Just as he did…

…I love you… now and forever…

Whew, I wrote this in about two hours! Pretty impressive, eh? :P The thing is, I was supposed to be in bed three hours ago… (sweatdrops) Luckily tomorrow (or rather, today, since it’s about 2am now…) is Sunday, so I could wake up late! Eheh, just not so late, since I’m supposed to leave by 10am for my Sunday School… Oh, and thankies to Jake Delfeir for beta-reading it for me! It’s pretty useful to have a beta-reader! XD

Anyways, I hoped that you like this short story of mine! :D
