God’s Calling

Down he falls,

My comrade and friend,

I cannot save him,

He’s met his end

This rifle is cold,

Foreign in my hands,

I’m scared beyond belief,

Yet here I stand

Soldiers fall down,

Screaming in pain,

Their lives sadly spent

For a cause made in vain

I’m slow behind the others,

Surely falling behind,

I just can’t keep up

Terror burning in my mind

Footfalls growing closer,

Gaining on my speed,

It isn’t my friends,

Just murderous minds of greed

I can now see the beacon,

My light to safety,

I’m almost home,

I’ll make it! Just maybe!

What I thought I couldn’t do,

It turns out I was right,

One simple shot

Now I see the light

Going to join them,

My fellow fallen,

Only 18 years old,

I can hear God callin’
