Untitled

Driving through a busy street

Numbed by a song from an unknown

It touches every inch of his soul

Like a bee touches a rose

His heart beats faster and faster

With every thought

His mind pictures what he wants to see

It doesn’t matter who the song is for

Today the song is his

And therefore it’s for his lover.

He looks up at the perfect moment,

When the street lights all turn on.

The twilight preludes the arrival of the night

And the streets lights herald a breakthrough

An attempt to escape the pitch black night.

The cars keep moving and he just drives

With no direction,

With no awareness,

He just drove to her,

In the twilight and the streets lights

The cars and the whores,

The trucks and the thieves,

And all those in between

He kept driving.

The night was near,

The road turned dark

This part of town has no street lights

It only has a road.

He drives blinded and numb

Listening to a song over and over

Waiting to arrive where he wants to go.

There he goes…

Just driving, with a drifting look

He seemed to be driving

In his mind to somewhere else

His exit is near,

It has no sign

And it’s hard to find.

He missed the exit,

Now he’s astray,

Like a wandering dog

He looks around to find his way,

But it’s still under construction

So he keeps driving,

Trying to find a way to her.

The song is over, the lights are off,

The night is cold and there’s no more road.

Now he is going to have to walk…
