This part of town

It’s quiet in this particular part of town.

Some people are sipping drinks

outside a coffee-shop

while others ponder

important philosophical questions.

It’s an interesting day here in Old San Juan.

The place where the city lights

still look like old Spanish colonial chandeliers

yet feels very contemporary.

Tourists with their amazed faces

looking all around this particular part of town,

the same place where the taxies pick them up

to take them to their home away from home.

Yeah it’s quiet in this part of town

despite the proximity to several clubs,

today it’s quiet and calm.

The breeze is playing with the trees in the plaza

And the trees play with the light

And the light plays with the street,

People walk up and down one brick street

While cars drive up from the other

People sit down and talk to one another

and wonder how the Spaniards lived

Two-hundred years ago in this very spot.

No doubt it’s a quiet night in this part of town

There’s Latin Jazz playing in the background

and the brick street looks like the one from Oz

sometimes the light makes the street dark golden.

This is the part of town where the brick road

meets with the other roads of progress

but despite the turmoil of modernity

it’s always been quiet in this part of town

Afar the piers appear quiet too

it’s a Wednesday in Old San Juan

it’s full of people but it’s still a quiet day

because today it’s my last day in this part of town…
