Chapter Ten: A Final Farewell
Levin felt unnerved as he stared down at the device in his hand. He was now sitting in the passenger seat of a police car, giving the officer behind the wheel directions based on what the device was showing him.
“Take a right.” He said dully, pointing at the street, and releasing a sigh at the same time. ‘Please don’t let me be too late…’
Sensing the tension filling the cramped police car, the officer complied to Levin’s instructions, and then she too released a sigh. “Don’t worry we’ll get there in time…”
“You don’t understand the gravity of the situation.” He responded weakly. “Eric isn’t one to just make tea for the people he kidnaps. He’s a…a…” Tears were pushing their way to the surface, distracting Levin from his statement.
“I promise you that we will find your friend before it gets to that point.” She said sure of herself.
“Take a left,” He responded, pointing at the street once again. Then he fell silent as he processed her statement. ‘How can she promise something like that? Women are so open with promises…’
“Based on the noise that little gadget of yours is making I’d say we’re getting close,” She commented, bringing Levin back into reality.
He nodded and the once again responded meekly. “Yes we’re almost there…”
He led the officer down one more street and then asked her to come to a stop. The device in his hand has gone off saying that this was the place and when he stepped out of the car to look at the location he was positive that the device was correct.
Before him stood an abandoned warehouse, with a single light on at the very top floor. “I’m going up there, give me back up only if I need it.” He said and shut the door.
She got out of the car as another police car pulled up. “We can’t do that. You need to stay down here and we’ll go up and get your friend.” The other two officers that had just arrived came by her side and nodded their heads in agreement.
“No.” He said coldly and started walking with haste towards the building. “I promised him I’d find him.”
“Whatever,” She responded and sighed.
“But captain-” One of the other men started.
She shook her head and shut the door. “Just let him be and lets go back him up.” She then took her gun from her holster and grasped it firmly. Then she quickened her pace to catch up with Levin.
‘Please god, let him be alive…’

Eric pulled back, full of satisfaction, and observed the now unconscious boy lying on the bed, still panting heavily. The boy had passed out just after he had begun raping him, which oddly enough, Eric found even more exciting. Yet throughout the entire process, the boy’s hand was still clenched tightly.
He redressed himself and then walked to the other side of the bed, where the bloody hand was still firmly clenched. He then tried to pry his hand open, but failed. “What the hell!” He tried harder this time, trying crush the boy’s hand.
The door crashed open and Levin stood in the doorway exasperated. “Get away from him now Eric!” He screamed standing cautiously in the doorway, still not able to fully see Van.
“If it isn’t the doctor,” Eric responded and turned around with a smirk on his face. “You should’ve seen your boy in all his glory. The blood, the screams, it was beautiful.”
“Bastard!” He screamed, clenching his fists. He wished he had a gun because he would shoot the man down right where he was standing at this point.
“Now don’t be too loud, or you’ll wake sleeping beauty.” He added sarcastically as he stepped to the side so the Levin could see everything.
On the bed lay the boy he had rushed here to save, and he was now practically destroyed. His skin wasn’t the color of flesh, but the color of blood. It was smeared everywhere, and no doubt done intentionally. What he found extremely sickening was the marking on Van’s arm. His worst fear though was that Van was no longer breathing, but every so often he watched the boy’s chest rise.
Being so distracted by the site before him, Levin had barely realized that Eric had now moved to the other side of the room and had his back turned towards him. “Well isn’t he beautiful?” Eric commented ruefully.
“How could you… How could you do this to another person?!” Levin questioned, now in completely hysterics.
“Very simply.” He responded and Levin heard a click. “By knowing that no one would ever find out.” He finished and spun around gun in hand. “Farewell doctor.”
“Get down!” Someone shouted, shoving Levin to the ground as several shots were fired. Eric’s body fell hard to the ground.
After a moment of silence that some voice, offered a hand to Levin and said almost urgently, “Get up, we need to get that boy to the hospital.”
Levin nodded to the female officer and rushed towards the blood soaked bed. He then removed his jacket and as carefully as possible, he wrapped the now extremely pale youth in it, to the best of his abilities.
He then noticed the chain hanging out of the boy’s now battered hand. Gently he tried to open his hand, knowing full well what would be in it. Van’s hand fell open willingly this time and out dropped a blood stained onyx ring.
“Oh god, I’m so sorry I didn’t get here sooner…” He whispered, tears forming in his eyes. He held the boy closely on the bed, forgetting his obligations.
The female captain came over and rested a hand on Levin’s shoulder. “We really need to get him to the hospital. I’ll leave the other officers to take care of this. Now please, we need to hurry.”
He nodded and picked up the boy in his arms. His body felt so much lighter to Levin and this sent dread through his body. Perhaps it was because he had lost so much blood…too much blood…
Hastily the officer and Levin made their way back down the stairs and then climbed into the car. Levin was sitting in the back seat, still holding tightly to Van, as the car began to speedily drive to the hospital.
“I won’t let you die…” He whispered and placed a simple kiss on the boy’s forehead as the cars sirens echoed through the night.

Well, let’s see it’s two years later, but I posted an update. No reviews this time, but thanks Bloodfeeder for inspiring me to write the next chapter. Maybe I’ll actually finish the story now!
