Teenage Romance
Are you all so juvenile?
Will a few months—a few weeks!—suffice?
To lose yourselves in another’s eyes—
And then to pay the price?
Are you so caught up in your own world—
That you’ll mistake these moments for love?
End phone calls with “I love you” from boy to girl—
And this teenage romance is enough?
What concept do you have of it—
If you’ll see love in a few moments of bliss?
Infatuation is a truer friend—
If you’ll fall in and out again and again!
Boy Number One—
You were what? Thirteen?
And you loved him how long? A week?
And then you cried some—
How long? For years?
Oh, what an amazing feat!
Then Boy Number Two—
After a few weeks—
You’d also fallen for him?
Then the pain you went through;
He made you so meek!
On this ‘love’; this juvenile whim?
Boy Number Three—
A week after the last;
And what? Now you love him more?
So amazing is he!
What of ‘loves’ of the past?
It’s nice that you’re so insecure!
What do you know of such devotion—
Does this ‘love’ make you feel whole?
You pretend to comprehend such emotion—
Until it comes to be old!
And next—when you find another—
Will you fall in ‘love’ with him too?
Because you’re so alone without each other?
And you know that this one is true?
How great that you’re fooled by this teenage romance!
How nice that you’ll give each ‘love’ a chance!
