I can see that you are sorry

For the things you haven’t done

And the people that you never even loved

I can see the way you reach out

With your heart and all your soul

To help a stranger find their feet and home

I hear the way you cry out

When another soul is hurt

And the way you stretch your arms towards their pleas

But now I hear you crying

In the middle of the night

When you think you’re all alone, and no-one hears

But I listen, and I know that

Just for once, ‘tis not another person’s tears

And I know if I were you, then I would help,

But I am not, and I am helpless in your pain
