Pink Curtains

K. Ryan, 2005

Walls apple green glow magenta
Nighttime weave drawn over daylight
Windows, where pink curtains block
Three-in-the-afternoon.

Alone in a bed with a hand over mine
Solitarily feeling hip and the
Warmth of waist—another face with
Lips pressed against my shoulder

I know you, I feel you; you’re here but you’re not.

I am you, I love you; I sleep
Here and you there, touching through sheets,
Through seas. You’re under
Me and over me, weightless weight
Waiting for eyes to close together
In our separate beds.

I know you, I feel you; you’re here but you’re not.

Together apart, apart together
We sleep.
